Valmet will supply a paper machine grade conversion rebuild to one of its major customers in Indonesia. In the project, paper machine, which was originally producing fine paper grades, will be rebuilt to produce brown grades. The start-up of the rebuilt paper machine is scheduled for 2022.

Voith announced that it has received an order from Shandong Huatai Paper to rebuild and modernize PM 11 located in the eastern Chinese province of Shandong. The project will convert PM 11's production from newsprint to high-quality graphic paper.

Rayonier Advanced Materials Inc. announced that it has completed its previously announced sale of its lumber and newsprint assets to GreenFirst Forest Products Inc., a Canadian lumber company, for a total purchase price of approximately US$235 million, subject to final adjustments.

Two Sides reports that Consumers are becoming increasingly conscious of their impact on the environment, and the majority of UK consumers believe the recycling rate of paper isn't very high. This low consumer awareness is worrying when paper is, in fact, one of the most recycled materials in the world with a recycling rate of 74%.

Feldmuehle GmbH, leading manufacturer of label and flexible packaging papers, will increase prices for all label paper qualities as of October 2021 by minimum 10%.

Following the outstanding escalation in raw materials, logistics, energy and other costs throughout 2021, The Navigator Company will increase paper prices in Europe up to 6%, effective 27th September.

In response to changing market demand, Shandong Huatai Paper decided to rebuild and modernize PM 11 in order to progressively convert newsprint production to high-quality graphic paper. The paper producer selected the full-line supplier Voith as a suitable partner.

The Karelia Pulp company, one of Russia’s largest pulp producers, will invest 50 billion rubles (US$679 million) in the modernization of the Kondopoga Pulp and Paper Mill in the Republic of Karelia. That will allow to reorient the enterprise from the main production of newsprint to the production of packaging cardboard.

Smurfit Kappa has announced it is investing $22 million to expand its corrugated plant in Culiacan, North-West Mexico. It demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to the Mexican market with expanded capacity, capabilities and products offerings for local customers in the fresh produce segment.

A new kraftliner production line, PM 27, which was supplied by Valmet to Klabin, was successfully started up on August 30th, 2021 at Puma Project in Ortigueira, Paraná, Brazil. The order for the production line was signed in May 2019.

Legislative
A new law in Oregon will update the state’s recycling systems to make recycling easier and more reliable, expand access to services and upgrade the facilities that sort recyclables. The Plastic Pollution and Recycling Modernization Act (Senate Bill 582), signed Aug. 6 by Gov. Kate Brown, will also ensure collected materials are recycled responsibly, and reduce social and environmental harms, such as plastic pollution.

Cascades is pleased to announce that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved its greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets. The targets submitted are therefore in line with the methodology developed by the organization, which is a partnership between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF).

Label producers and brand owners across the home and personal care and food sectors will benefit from this accomplishment, which can help them increase recycling rates.
