An innovative corrugated bin for face masks by Metsä Board, part of Metsä Group, has been awarded a ScanStar in a Nordic packaging design competition organized by the Scandinavian Packaging Association. The mask bin, made of lightweight and durable corrugated board, helps to collect and dispose of used face masks easily and safely.

The Paper Discovery Center announced that the 2020-2021 Paper Industry International Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place at the River Tyme Bistro (located in historic Atlas Mill) in Appleton, Wisconsin, on September 30, 2021 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

A new kraftliner production line, PM 27, which was supplied by Valmet to Klabin, was successfully started up on August 30, 2021 at Puma Project in Ortigueira, Paraná, Brazil.

Zurich-based industrial group ABB has modernized a key paper machine operated by Swiss packaging maker Model Group, fitting the machine with new energy-efficient motors and variable speed drives.

Valmet and Neles announced on July 2, 2021 that their Boards of Directors have agreed upon the combination of the two companies by signing a combination agreement and a merger plan, according to which Neles shall be merged into Valmet through a statutory absorption merger in accordance with the Finnish Companies Act whereby all assets and liabilities of Neles shall be transferred without a liquidation procedure to Valmet.

Kelheim Fibres announced that it will increase prices for its range of viscose fibres by EUR 0,20/kg, effective from 1 October 2021, or as contracts and agreements allow. In addition, freight cost adjustments will be applied on an individual customer basis. In cases where energy cost adjustments are not included in contracts and agreements, a temporary energy surcharge will be applied.

Voith announced price adjustments for paper machine clothing, shoe press sleeves, roll covers, mechanical roll service and doctoring solutions.

Greif, Inc., a global leader in industrial packaging products and services, today announced third quarter 2021 results.

Pulp & Paper
Valmet will supply key paper machine technology, which includes several upgrading works, to Muda Paper Mills Sdn. Bhd. for its PM 9 in Malaysia. The start-up is scheduled for the second quarter 2022.

International technology Group ANDRITZ has received an order from Astrabel d.o.o. to supply a tissue plant for cost-efficient production of high-quality grades to its mill in Belišće, Croatia. Start-up is planned for 2023.

Segezha Group, a subsidiary of Sistema PJSFC, is implementing a large-scale investment project to build a new paper machine (PM) at its Sokol Pulp and Paper Mill in the town of Sokol, Vologda Oblast, Russia.

Containerboard/Packaging

The objective for the consortium of AR Packaging, PulPac and the Research Institute of Sweden (RISE) is to develop and commercially validate ten standardized product concepts within different packaging and single-use applications during next three years.

New Products
Holmen Iggesund announced the launch of its paperboard coated with "Bio E", a barrier coating solution made from 75 percent renewable raw materials and approved for industrial composting. This bio-based coating is both liquid and grease resistant. It fulfils European and US FDA requirements for food contact, which makes it suitable for all kinds of food packaging, the company said.

Duni Group’s journey towards fossil-free operations continues as the first fossil free propane gas (BioLPG) delivery arrived at the subsidiary Rexcell Tissue & Airlaid’s paper mill in Skåpafors, Sweden.

Voith was awarded a B- rating for the first time by the independent rating agency ISS ESG and, together with SKF Group and Johnson Controls, is one of the three best companies within the plant and mechanical engineering sector worldwide. This was the first time since 2016 that the rating was improved from C+ to B-.
