With R$ 35.5 billion (approx. US$6.439 billion) in investments planned for the country through 2023, the forest-based sector (which includes pulp and paper producers and manufacturers of floors and wood panels) is currently one of the major generators of new jobs in Brazilian agribusiness.

Essity is investing in enhanced efficiency in the company´s site in Kawerau, New Zealand, including the world’s first tissue machine running a fully geothermal steam drying process. Together with a reduction in pulp consumption, reduced waste and elimination of the burning of natural gas on the machine, the improvements will contribute to a reduction of carbon emissions by 23 percent from the Kawerau site.

A total of 10 tissue machines at five Hayat Kimya sites will be equipped with WebInspector® solutions from Papertech within the next months. Hayat is thus sending a clear signal to invest in sustainable premium quality.

ANDRITZ has received orders from Naturheld GmbH to supply two fiber preparation systems for its new production line in Grafenwöhr, Germany. With this project, Naturheld is also entering the insulation material sector. Start-up is scheduled for the second half of 2022.

Greif, Inc. announced that it is implementing a $60 per ton price increase for all grades of uncoated recycled paperboard (URB) and a minimum 7.0 percent increase on all tube and core and protective packaging products.

Sonoco announced it is implementing a $60 per ton price increase for all grades of uncoated recycled paperboard (URB) in the United States and Canada, effective with shipments beginning November 1, 2021.

Softwood fiber costs were generally higher worldwide in the 2Q/2021 than in the previous quarter despite an increase in the supply of residuals from sawmills in Europe and North America. Practically all regions covered by Wood Resources Quarterly (WRQ) experienced quarter-over-quarter price increases in the range of 1-5%.

Pulp & Paper
The Marutomi Group fired up a Toscotec-supplied MODULO-PLUS ES tissue machine at its Ono Paper’s mill in Fuji city, Japan. This is the second of two tissue lines supplied by Toscotec to the Marutomi Group, who implemented a strong expansion in the Japanese market.

Arkhbum tissue group, one of Russia’s leading tissue producers, is expanding its range by the launch of some new products in the domestic market, according to the company.

Andritz has received an order from SCA (Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget) to rebuild a disc filter at their pulp mill in Ortviken, Sundsvall, Sweden.

Smurfit Kappa Group announces that it has now completed the acquisition of Verzuolo for a purchase price of €360 million. Customary closing conditions have now been satisfied.

Since the second half of 2019, Dunapack Packaging Hellas S.A. boosts its expansion plans in Greece with a further plant enlargement of 6.960m². The extension is mainly driven by an enlargement of the converting area as well as a new warehouse for raw materials and finished goods.

Metsä Board, part of Metsä Group, has awarded AFRY the engineering assignment for the investment to increase their folding boxboard production capacity in Husum mill, Sweden. The investment will lead to an increased production capacity of 200,000 metric tons, to meet a growing demand for sustainably produced packaging materials.
