Kemira has been selected as the primary chemical supplier for Cascades’ new recycled board mill in North America. Cascades, a Canadian-based leading producer of sustainable packaging solutions, is converting their Bear Island mill in Virginia, US, to a containerboard machine that will produce lightweight 100% recycled linerboard and medium grades for the North American market.

Sappi has selected AFT to add new POM® Technology to their approach flow system at Ngodwana’s linerboard machine. The system will work with a kraft/recycle furnish mix on the mill’s nearly 700 tpd containerboard system.

Blackstone on Dec. 2 announced that funds managed by its Blackstone Tactical Opportunities business ("Blackstone") have acquired Sustana Group from an affiliate of H.I.G. Capital.

The Paper Excellence Group announced the successful closing of its previously-announced acquisition of Domtar. The acquisition further establishes Paper Excellence Group as an industry leader, significantly broadening its global reach and expanding its product range to include airlaid nonwovens and containerboard, in addition to significantly increased pulp and paper production.

Sonoco-Alcore S.a.r.l. announced that due to continued inflationary pressure on the business, it will raise prices by 10 percent on all tube and core grades sold in the Company’s EMEA regions. The increase will be effective for all shipments made on or after the 13th December 2021.

Paper Converting Machine Company (PCMC) announced the opening of a new Packaging Innovation Center, located at its headquarters in Green Bay, Wisconsin (USA). The multi-purpose space is more than 4,700 square feet and will serve as a hub for demonstrations, training, education, industry trials, and research and development.

According to Euwid, Pro-Gest plans to build a new corrugated board and packaging plant in Italy which will start up in January 2022. Pro-Gest's new site will have a capacity of 250 million m² of corrugated board annually.

The full study was conducted by an external consultancy, is ISO-compliant, and includes an external critical review.

Jonathan Charles Kerr of Loveland, OH, passed away on November 17, 2021. Kerr was a TAPPI Fellow and the 2015 recipient of TAPPI’s Herman L. Joachim Distinguished Service Award. He was the beloved husband of Denice Duane Kerr, loving father of Emily (Nicholas) Keller and Andrew Kerr (Kimberly Wetzel), and adoring grandfather of Theodore Jonathan Keller.
