Paper producer Sun Paper recently successfully started up PM 2 at its site in Beihai in Southeast China. The new line in visionary industrial design now produces high-quality white folding boxboard with a basis weight of 170 to 350 gsm and a wire width of 8,900 mm.

Runtech Systems delivers a RunEco vacuum system to Kıvanç Tekstil greenfield paper mill in Adana, Turkey. RunEco system will provide vacuum for the new containerboard machine PM1 with design speed of 1,200 m/min and trim width of 6,600 mm.

Ahlstrom-Munksjö has successfully completed the acquisition of a 60% stake in Chinese decor paper producer Minglian New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. and forms a joint venture which comprises a state-of-the-art plant in the city of Xingtai, Hebei Province, China.

According to the China National Household Paper Industry Association (CNHPIA), in 2021, newly added production capacity in China's tissue paper industry reached a record high. "The market competition will become more intense, and industry enterprises should invest cautiously," CNHPIA warned.

Mondi is thus the first to offer an extensive uncoated fine paper portfolio as Cradle to Cradle Certified® meeting the high standards and demanding requirements of this certification scheme which marks the step from a linear to a circular economy.

Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill (APPM), one of Russia’s largest pulp and paper producers, plans to build a second stage of the plant for the production of sanitary and hygienic products in the Kaluga region in 2023, according to recent statements, made by the company and some local media reports.

Containerboard/Packaging
The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released preliminary 2021 data from U.S. paper and paperboard mills indicating record containerboard production, the material used to make cardboard boxes.

Norske Skog has named Warsaw-based Paperboard as their exclusive representative for sales of containerboard in the fast-growing Polish market. Founded in 2016, Paperboard is an independent paper and board mill agent, representing numerous mills in Poland.

Nanotechnology
Cellulose nanofibers (CNF), also called cellulose nanofibrils or nanofibrillated cellulose, are sustainable materials with high mechanical strength and stiffness (stronger than steel), high aspect ratios, high transparency, high chemical resistance and impressive rheological, optical and film-forming properties. They are also lightweight and have made a recent impact in industrial applications in biopolymers, bio-composites and hygiene and sanitary products.

New Products
Carrier bags made of paper are becoming more common in Swedish waste bins as plastic bags are being phased out in the stores. But the paper bags are not adapted for residual waste, which creates problems in the system. Now, four companies in central Sweden are working together to give paper bags a given place in the waste management system.

Sustainability
Rayonier Advanced Materials announced that it has achieved International Sustainability and Carbon Certification Plus (ISCC+) recognition at its Fernandina Beach facility. The certification will allow RYAM's customers to procure ISCC+ certified High Purity Cellulose, addressing sustainability requirements in their end markets.

Smurfit Kappa has had its emissions reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as consistent with levels required to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. The targets covering greenhouse gas emissions from Smurfit Kappa’s operations (scopes 1 and 2) are consistent with reductions required to keep global warming to well-below 2°C.
