Koehler Paper, a Koehler Group company, is converting the power plant at its production location in Greiz from pulverized lignite to fine wood fraction fuel. The experts at Koehler Renewable Energy, which is also part of the Koehler Group, have succeeded in developing an innovative technique that makes it possible for a type of biomass to be used as fuel in the existing coal-fired power plant in a completely new way.

Avery Dennison has achieved another market first with the launch of a new certified portfolio of vegan labels, which contain no animal-derived components. Additionally, every item in the portfolio was created without animal testing, or the use of GMOs of animal origin.

ANDRITZ has successfully started up a PrimeFlow AT headbox with dilution control at the Casalino Carta mill in Rocca Grimalda (Alessandria), Italy. The aim of the rebuild was to improve the basis weight profiles and formation of the PM1 packaging paper machine, which has a production speed of 305 to 570 m/min and a width of 2.9 m at the pope reel.

By Kathi Rowzie, President, Two Sides North America After a sharp decline in 2020, printed catalogs are coming back in a big way. Market research firm Keypoint Intelligence reports that digital print volumes – the production method for most smaller-run catalogs – has rebounded close to its pre-pandemic level, and demand is expected to soar past pre-pandemic production next year and continue rising at a compound annual rate of 8% through 2025.

Stora Enso will invest EUR 40 million in new technology and restructuring of its fluff pulp production site in Skutskär, Sweden. The objective is to increase cost efficiencies and further improve the site's climate footprint, thereby aligning with Stora Enso's goal to provide regenerative solutions.

The Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill (APPM), one of Russia’s leading pulp and paper producers, plans to invest about 5.8 billion rubles (US$80 million) in environmental modernization of its production in 2022, according to recent statements, made by the company and some local media reports.
