Sappi Europe announced that it will increase prices for its Graphic Paper and Board products (Coated and Uncoated Fine paper, Coated Mechanical paper and Paperboard) by approximately 8% effective on deliveries from 1 April.

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released its January 2022 Printing-Writing Monthly report. According to the report, total printing-writing paper shipments increased three percent in January compared to January 2021.

Wood fiber costs for pulp manufacturers have gone up in practically all countries covered by Wood Resource Quarterly ("WRQ") over the past year. In the 3Q/21, the Softwood Fiber Price Index (SFPI) was at its highest level since 2014 — 8.1% higher than the 3Q/20.

Pulp & Paper
SCA said that it will invest SEK 90 million (approx. US$9.6 million) in its Östrand pulp mill in Timrå, Sweden. The investment includes a new incinerator that will lead to operational cost savings while allowing the pulp mill to increase production capacity.

Canfor Pulp Products announced a minimum six-week curtailment of BCTMP production at Taylor Pulp in response to significant transportation shortages that have resulted in inventories at the pulp mill reaching capacity.

The Schumacher Packaging Group has obtained a majority interest in the long-standing Kaierde board mill in Delligsen, Lower Saxony. In doing so, this family-owned business has increased its overall capacity for solid board by 50 percent – from 50,000 tons to a total of 75,000 tons per year.

For optimized cleaning, Voith introduces the new InduraClean (IDC) product family as part of its BlueLine stock preparation portfolio. The system consists of an improved cleaner bank, which can be combined with both the new InduraClean IDC-4 and optimized InduraClean IDC-5.

Sustainability
USA BioEnergy, through its subsidiary Texas Renewable Fuels (TRF), announced a project to build an advanced biorefinery in Bon Wier, Texas. The new plant will convert 1 million green tons of wood waste into 34 million gallons per year of premium, clean burning transportation fuel including Sustainable Aviation Fuel, Renewable Diesel and Renewable Naphtha.
