A.G. Stacker has been named the 2022 Innovation in Utilization award winner by the Shenandoah Valley Technology Council (SVTC). A.G., custom manufacturer of corrugated material handling equipment and technology, received the award during SVTC’s 22nd Annual TechNite Ceremony, hosted on May 4th, at James Madison University.

The operations at Metsä Group's and Valmet's 3D fibre product demo plant in Äänekoski, Finland, has begun. At the end of 2020, Metsä Group's innovation company Metsä Spring and Valmet announced they would be investing a total of approximately 20 million euros in the demo plant.

UPM Raflatac has signed an agreement to acquire AMC AG (Advanced Methods of Coating), a Germany-based company. This acquisition accelerates growth and expands the product offering of UPM Raflatac.

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released its April 2022 Printing-Writing Monthly report. According to the report, total printing-writing paper shipments remained essentially flat (+0.3 percent) in April compared to April 2021.

Runtech Systems-supplied RunEco vacuum system rebuild has started up at Papelera de Brandia, S.A., in Spain. New EP600 Turbo Blower replaces five liquid ring pumps at the mill.

Norkol announced the expansion of its sheeting capacity out of the company's Northlake, Illinois, paper converting facility. A new Jagenberg sheeter has been installed and will convert an additional 10,000 tons per year.

Runtech Systems delivers a dryer section modification to Smurfit Kappa Wrexen Paper and Board GmbH PM3 in Germany. With this rebuild, the mill benefits from improved runnability with less breaks and draw, ropeless tail threading with shortened tail threading times and improved operator safety.

Containerboard/Packaging
Smurfit Kappa has announced the construction of a new packaging plant in Morocco — its first corrugated plant in the country. Located in Rabat and covering an area of 25,000 m2, it will enable Smurfit Kappa to supply innovative and sustainable packaging solutions quickly and efficiently to its local customer base.

Thimm Group announced that it has entered an agreement to sell Thimm Packaging Systems, the industrial goods division of the company, to Rengo Group, Japan's largest packaging supplier.

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) announced 68% of all paper consumed in the United States was recycled in 2021 — a rate on par with the highest rate previously achieved.
