Kruger Products on June 20 officially inaugurated its Sherbrooke Tissue Plant in Québec, which was commissioned in 2021, and also broke ground at its expansion project where another tissue plant will be built on a site adjacent to the Sherbrooke Plant by 2024.

Schweitzer-Mauduit International, Inc. and Neenah, Inc. announced the future name of the combined company upon completing the pending all-stock merger of equals. Each company's shareholders are scheduled to vote on the transaction on June 29, 2022.

UPM has signed an agreement to sell 100% of the shares of its Austrian subsidiary UPM Kymmene-Austria GmbH to the Heinzel Group. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the deal.

Arauco has announced that on June 22 it signed a US$3 billion investment collaboration agreement with the government of Mato Grosso Do Sul in Brazil for the construction of a new pulp mill.

The UPM Paso de los Toros pulp mill was recently granted approval by the Uruguayan environmental authorities for its commissioning plan enabling UPM to begin the testing phase for pulp production equipment at the new plant.

Optima entered into a strategic shareholding with Weyhmueller since mid June 2022, and has acquired a stake in the company. The mechanical engineering company from Neu-Ulm in Bavaria, Germany manufactures specialist machines for manufacturing cups and cans made out of paper.

Corrugated packaging continues to gain importance in the current e-commerce era. Various research efforts have highlighted the significance of e-commerce as a burgeoning trend in recent years, one that has been pushed into overdrive since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

New Products
Klabin has just developed a new version of its paperboard aimed at beverage packaging (multipack), Klamulti, which now includes microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) in the composition.

Toscotec launches INGENIA, a new concept tissue machine to produce premium quality structured tissue paper. The quality generated by INGENIA line is substantially higher than textured tissue and close to Through Air Drying (TAD) produced paper, but using 35% less energy.

Sustainability
The decision of the European Innovation Council (EIC) to fund CH-Bioforce is the result of long-term and thorough work, and it will also help the company raise other funding. CH-Bioforce aims to build a biomass processing plant in Raisio in 2024.

Kemira launches a new Growth Accelerator unit to drive Kemira’s long-term growth for selected strategic initiatives. The new unit has two main objectives: to accelerate commercialization of new and unique biomaterials into Kemira’s current markets and to create business opportunities in new adjacent markets for both new and existing Kemira products.
