Representatives of the European paper value chain gathered yesterday in Brussels have pledged to recycle 76% of all paper consumed by 2030. The commitment was taken during the 8th edition of the European Paper Recycling Awards which saw two projects, breaking new ground for how far paper recycling can go, receiving the highest distinction in the European paper recycling community.

The Paper Excellence Group (the "Group"), through its wholly-owned subsidiary Domtar Corporation ("Domtar"), a global diversified manufacturer of pulp and specialty, printing, writing, and packaging papers, and Resolute Forest Products Inc. ("Resolute") (NYSE: RFP) (TSX: RFP), a global forest products company, have entered into an agreement under which Domtar will acquire all of the outstanding common shares of Resolute stock.

Mativ Holdings, Inc. announced the successful completion of the merger of equals between Schweitzer-Mauduit International, Inc. ("SWM") and Neenah, Inc., two leading global manufacturers of specialty materials, effective July 6, 2022.

Pulp & Paper
International technology group ANDRITZ has received an order from Shanying Paper (Jilin) Co. Ltd. to supply a complete OCC line, including fiber recovery and reject handling system, for its mill near Fuyu City, Songyuan, Jilin Province, China. Start-up is scheduled for the second quarter of 2023.

The frozen food segment saw skyrocketing demand months after the onset of the global Covid-19 pandemic as consumers had reduced access to restaurants during the various stages of lockdowns that began in March 2020. According to IRi, a Chicago-based market research firm, frozen food sales increased by 25.3% in December 2021 compared to sales in December 2019.

Valmet will deliver a LignoBoost plant for Mercer Rosenthal Lignin Center in Thuringia, Germany. The plant will extract kraft lignin from pulp mill black liquor.

Total Fiber Recovery of Chesapeake (TFRC) said that it has started construction of its $80 million recycled pulp production facility in the City of Chesapeake, Virginia. This will be the first of several such pulp facilities by Total Fiber Recovery.

Sonoco announced it is expanding post-consumer recovery and recycling opportunities for paper cups in bales of mixed paper to be used as raw material at its Hartsville, South Carolina, paperboard mill to produce new paperboard.
