Mondi, a global leader in packaging and paper, is investing around €5 million in a new research and development (R&D) facility at Mondi Steinfeld, in Germany. This investment will support customers by helping them to develop solutions that achieve their sustainability goals.

Kemira is implementing a 4% energy surcharge for all Pulp and Paper process and functional chemistries across North America for all non-contract customers, effective October 1, 2022. The surcharge announced in April for inorganic coagulants sold through the company's Industry & Water segment remains in effect.

UPM Raflatac has completed the acquisition of AMC AG (Advanced Methods of Coating). The acquisition announced in May 2022 was closed on 15 September 2022 after regulatory clearances. AMC AG employs more than 300 people and has two production sites in Northern Germany, in Kaltenkirchen and in Hagenow.

Valmet will supply pulp technology equipment for a new pulp stream of unbleached kraft pulp to Zellstoff Pöls AG, Austria. The company is a part of the Heinzel group.

Stora Enso has signed an agreement to divest its Nymölla paper production site in Sweden, and all related assets to Sylvamo, a US-based global producer of uncoated paper. The enterprise value is EUR 150 million.

Containerboard/Packaging
Metsä Board announced that it will start pre-engineering for a new folding boxboard mill with an annual capacity of approximately 800,000 metric tons at the Kaskinen mill site in Finland. The pre-engineering phase will include technical design, design of infrastructure and logistics solutions and tendering for the main equipment.

Smurfit Kappa has signed an agreement to acquire PaperBox, a corrugated cardboard packaging plant located in Saquarema, 70 kms east of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This acquisition represents a further expansion of Smurfit Kappa's operational footprint in Brazil as it currently operates in three other states: Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul and Ceará.

Koehler Paper, part of the Koehler Group, is adding to its flexible packaging paper portfolio with the launch of Koehler NexPure® Wrap. The burger and wrap packaging paper is aimed at fast-food system catering in particular.
