Germany will face with an acute shortage of paper this year, that will be mainly due to ever rising energy prices in the country this year and the existing threat of bankruptcies of many leading local pulp and paper enterprises, according to recent statements, made by some leading German paper producers and local media reports.

Ahlstrom-Munksjö has started to operate under the business name Ahlstrom as of October 3, 2022. The company has completed the ownership reorganization of its Decor business and thus proceeded with its plan, announced in May 2022, to change its name to Ahlstrom.

Sappi Limited announced that it has concluded an agreement with AURELIUS Investment Lux One S.à.r.l. ("AURELIUS") regarding the divesture of its Maastricht Mill in the Netherlands, its Stockstadt Mill in Germany and its Kirkniemi Mill in Finland (the "Transaction").

Sonoco has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire S.P. Holding, Skjern A/S ("Skjern"), a privately owned manufacturer of paper based in Skjern, Denmark. The acquisition expands production capacity for customers and Sonoco converting operations throughout Europe and bordering regions.

Solenis and Kolb Distribution Ltd. (“Kolb”), a unit of KLK Kolb Group, have announced that Solenis has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the latter’s paper process chemicals business. The deal includes a long-term supply agreement, in which the KLK Kolb Group will manufacture paper process chemicals exclusively for Solenis.

Pixelle Specialty Solutions LLC, a leading manufacturer of specialty papers in North America, has announced plans to restart a paper machine in its Chillicothe, Ohio facility. The company is investing $21 million to upgrade and restart the #24 paper machine (PM24) and plans to hire 52 full-time employees to operate and maintain it.

ANDRITZ has received an order from Bracell SP Celulose Ltda. to supply four PrimeLineTM W 2000 tissue production lines to its mill located in Lençóis Paulista, São Paulo.

Metsä Tissue's renewed tissue paper machine at the Mänttä mill in Finland has moved from the trial run phase to continuous production. The renewed paper machine will be used to produce fresh fibre-based tissue paper products primarily for the Finnish market.

The Mayr-Melnhof Group (MM) has successfully finalized the acquisition of Essentra Packaging, which was agreed in June 2022, after receiving approval from all relevant competition authorities. The transaction comprises of 100% of the shares in ESNT Packaging & Securing Solutions Limited (UK) and 100% of the shares in Essentra Packaging US Inc (US) as well as their affiliated companies.

Valmet will supply a coated board making line with automation and Industrial Internet solutions as well as spare parts and consumables packages to one of its customers in the Asia-Pacific region. The board making line with high productivity will produce folding coated board grades of premium quality.
