Sulzer has successfully finalized an extensive modernization project in the Karhula pump factory. Automation and digitization of the processes will take production to a completely new level, cutting throughput time by 93%. World-class measurement accuracy and digitized quality inspection will guarantee the highest product quality.

Norske Skog announced that CellMark Italy will act as the exclusive sales and marketing agent for sales of the Norske Skog publication paper and recycled containerboard products in the Italian market, effective January 1, 2023.

The two plants received significant upgrades, installing state-of-the-art equipment to expand capacity and address the rise in customer demand for paper-based packaging solutions. The investment sees the installation of new converting equipment which will increase the capacity by over 100 million regular and offset printed boxes per annum.

The Koehler Paper Greiz site is sponsoring Italian artist Enrico Mazzone with paper for his most recent large-scale project. Enrico Mazzone, who was born in 1982 in Turin, Italy, is a visionary and talented artist known for his grandiose “Rubedo,” a visual representation of the Divine Comedy.

Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. has announced a price increase for its Liquid-Packaging Carton in Japan. Prices will increase 18% or more for shipments on and after the 1st of April, 2023.

Koehler Paper, leading manufacturer of thermal paper, is increasing prices for its thermal paper product range globally by 8 % for all grades, effective for deliveries from February 1st 2023.

On 11 November 2022, Toscotec has started up two tissue machine rebuilds at the production facilities of two major producers in North and South America. On both projects, the scope of the modifications was extensive, covering the wet and the dry section of the two lines. The tight periods of machine stop have been executed according to schedule.

Huhtamaki, a key global advanced manufacturer of sustainable packaging solutions, inaugurated its extension to its existing paper-based packaging manufacturing site in Nules, Spain. This latest investment reflects the growing demand from for renewable and recyclable paper-based packaging to substitute rigid plastics.

Austrian paper manufacturer Laakirchen Papier AG has commissioned the leading full-line supplier Voith to implement the comprehensive rebuild of PM 11 at its Laakirchen site. The company, which is part of the Heinzel Group, is converting the plant from the production of graphic papers to containerboard.

Suzano started construction of an "Innovability Hub" at the Zhangjiang Science City in Shanghai, China. This is Suzano's first R&D and innovation center in Asia.

Sustainability
Solenis, a leading global producer of specialty chemicals, has opened two new international centers of excellence to help drive more sustainable solutions for the consumer paper packaging industry. One center is virtual, allowing customers to participate remotely in lab experiments, while the other center is in a new facility in Mönchengladbach, Germany.

Liberty Diversified International (LDI), a New Hope, Minn.-based manufacturer of packaging, office furniture, and building products, announced today that Dan Gigstead has been selected to lead LDI’s North Division as Vice President of Packaging.

Metsä Group announced that Katariina Kemppainen has been appointed SVP, Group R&D, effective January 1, 2023. Kemppainen currently serves as VP, Group R&D, a position she has held since June of 2021 when Metsä Group created the Group R&D function.
