For more than two years now, the Italian company Toscotec has been a subsidiary of Voith and since then has been serving the business with new lines and major rebuilds in the tissue paper sector for the entire Voith Group. As a result, intensive cooperation began, which among other things resulted in an optimized BlueLine stock preparation portfolio for the tissue production.

Voith announced that it has opened an OnPerformance.Lab (OPL) in Kunshan, China. Other OPL locations can be found in Heidenheim, Germany, and Tokyo, Japan.

Paper Excellence announced that it will invest nearly $50 million to upgrade its Crofton mill's paper operations and towards reductions in its carbon footprint. The investment sees the restart of its C2 paper machine putting over 100 employees back to work.

Mercer International announced that, due to a lack of appropriate fiber availability, its Celgar pulp mill in British Columbia, Canada, is planning to take approximately three weeks of downtime. This curtailment is expected to start in March 2023.

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released the December 2022 Packaging Papers Monthly report on January 18. Total packaging papers & specialty packaging shipments in December decreased 13% compared to December 2021. They were down 4% for the year compared to 2021.
