Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. announced its decision to discontinue production of graphic paper at its Australian consolidated subsidiary, Paper Australia Pty Ltd. ("Opal"). The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released its January 2023 Printing-Writing Monthly report. According to the report, total printing-writing paper shipments decreased 9% in January compared to January 2022.

Södra posted a record result for 2022. The association's operating profit totaled SEK 7,805 million and Södra's Board proposes a profit distribution of SEK 3,243 million to members. The result is attributable to high industrial production combined with favorable market conditions during the year.

Pulp & Paper
International technology group ANDRITZ has received an order from Procter & Gamble (P&G) to supply a PrimeLineTAD (Through-Air Dried) tissue machine for its Family Care plant in Box Elder, Utah, USA. Start-up is scheduled for 2024.

Georgia-Pacific is making a significant investment at its corrugated plant in Owosso, Michigan. Newer equipment will improve the plant's throughput and print capability to better meet customer needs.

Andritz will deliver a FibreFlow Drum pulper with a maximum feed capacity of 1,400 t/d, various fiber cleaning equipment, and a spray water treatment system for the production of various board grades.

Containerboard/Packaging
Kruger Packaging announced investments of over $30 million to modernize its Place Turcot Containerboard Mill in Montreal, Canada.

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released its January 2023 Packaging Papers Monthly report.

Arctic Paper and Rottneros have entered into an agreement on a joint venture, an investment of PLN 100 million in the production of moulded fiber trays. A 50/50-owned Polish company has been founded to establish production at Arctic Paper's Polish mill.

Sustainability
Stora Enso said that it will invest approximately EUR 30 million in its Heinola Fluting Mill to renew the energy set-up and process equipment. After the investment, the mill will be able to replace the remaining fossil-based fuels with renewable bioenergy, reducing the site's greenhouse gas emissions by more than 90%.
