The Paper and Packaging Board (P+PB) is seeking nominees for three open board seats in the following regions: one from the South, one from the rest of the U.S. and one Importer seat. Each seat is a three-year term beginning January 1, 2024.

The Millcraft Paper Company announces that it has acquired the assets of TNT Papercraft, Cincinnati, Ohio, effective April 1, 2023. Founded by Don Trautmann in 1995, family-owned TNT has a wonderful reputation as a leading distributor of paper and office products for more than 28 years.

Pulp & Paper
Valmet will deliver a TwinRoll wash press to Holmen Paper AB’s Braviken mill in Sweden. The start-up is scheduled for April 2024. The order was included in Valmet’s orders received of the fourth quarter 2022. Its value will not be disclosed.

The new UPM Paso de los Toros pulp mill has reached the technical readiness to start operations. UPM has also received the environmental authorities' acceptance of all the procedures, systems and technologies that are required to fulfil the environmental permit of the mill.

According to an article online at Bangor Daily News, ND Paper will take "extended downtime" beginning in mid-April at its Old Town pulp mill in Maine.

Containerboard/Packaging
Valmet will supply a new container board machine with extensive packages of automation, services, and industrial internet applications to DS Smith Paper Italia S.r.l at their Porcari (Lucca) site in Italy. The start-up of the machine is scheduled for middle of 2025.

McLean Packaging, a comprehensive provider of rigid set boxes, folding cartons, corrugated displays and thermoformed packaging solutions, recently installed a Speedmaster XL 106-10+LYYL from HEIDELBERG at its Moorestown, NJ folding carton manufacturing facility.

As part of its continued focus on global sustainability leadership, Ahlstrom has joined forces with Istituto Stampa on their innovative sustainable packaging solution for the Butter and Margarine industry. The two companies combined their know-how and technologies to develop a compostable solution for butter and margarine packaging.

The EchoShore-DX leak monitoring system has expanded to include the new valve-based sensors to complement the existing hydrant-based leak detection system.

Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, has collaborated with Swiss converter ATS-Tanner to create an innovative paper band, which can hold individually labelled products or bundles reducing unnecessary plastic.

Voith announced that it has developed a completely new, disruptive concept that allows CO2 neutral paper production. Moreover, the groundbreaking concept reduces fresh water consumption by up to 95 percent as well as energy consumption by up to 40 percent, and the process does not require fossil fuels.

As well as exploring trends in Ahlstrom’s business environment, the 2022 report includes information on Ahlstrom’s ongoing business transformation. Sustainability highlights from 2022 include the commitment to set near-term company-wide emission reductions in line with climate science with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), and its Platinum EcoVadis certification.

UPM Fibres is moving forward with the implementation of its commercial strategy for pulp with the intention to build a pulp sales organization in North America. As a result, UPM announced that Jean-François Royer will join its pulp sales team as Senior Sales Manager for Pulp in North America, effective April 3, 2023.
