OptiCept Technologies has entered an agreement with a world-leading forestry company in Brazil. Cuttings will now be boosted with nutrients using a unique vacuum impregnation technology called OptiBoost. The focus is on treating high-yielding cutting clones and maximizing their use in production.

On September 12, WestRock and Smurfit Kappa announced the signing of a definitive merger agreement. This followed the news that a merger to combine the second-largest containerboard producer in North America with the largest containerboard producer in Europe was under discussion earlier in September.

The decrease in pulp prices we’ve recently seen may not be a temporary occurrence. We anticipate an excess of market pulp capacity in the near future.

Rayonier Advanced Materials (NYSE: RYAM) is announcing that in order to optimize inventory levels and address lower-than-anticipated demand, its Témiscaming Paperboard operation and one of its High-Yield Pulp lines will be idled for 3 weeks, beginning on October 7.

Fourstones Paper Mill announces the installation of a new paper machine at their Sapphire Paper Mill site in Leslie, Scotland.

AB Grigeo, one of the largest paper and wood industry company groups in the Baltic States, has signed a preliminary agreement for the purchase of shares regarding the acquisition of one of the factories of Głuchołaskie Zakłady Papiernicze sp. z o.o (GZP), a tissue paper and cardboard manufacturer in Poland.

Graphic Packaging announced it will permanently decommission the K3 coated recycled paperboard (CRB) machine in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The K3 machine is one of three CRB machines at the Kalamazoo facility and is the company's longest-running machine.

Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, is helping farmers grow their crops, having partnered with Cotesi, a producer of twine, nets and ropes made from synthetic and natural raw materials for the agricultural sector, to replace conventional plastic mulch film with a paper solution, Advantage Kraft Mulch.

The corrugated packaging industry has achieved substantial reductions in the environmental impacts of a corrugated cardboard box according to a new life cycle assessment (LCA) released [Oct. 3].

The pulp and paper sector has already decoupled growth and CO2 emissions for several decades, but it remains energy-intensive.
