Enstra Paper, member of the Corruseal Group and one of the largest producers of recycled containerboard grades in South Africa, has engaged Voith to rebuild its PM 6 for packaging paper in Springs, close to Johannesburg, in South Africa.

As Asia Symbol Group, one of the biggest wood pulp producers in China, expands its pulp and paper business into tissue manufacturing, it has selected long-term strategic partner ABB to deliver the ABB Ability™ Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and system integration at three of its tissue mills in China.

ABB has upgraded a paper machine drive control system at Jujo Thermal's mill in Kauttua, Finland. ABB's scope of delivery included the provision and commissioning of the upgrade package for the existing PM2 drive control system and new drives.

Mitsubishi HiTec Paper announced that it is increasing the price for its Giroform carbonless papers for orders received from 1 November 2023. Mitsubishi said the rate of increase will be agreed individually, depending on the region and market.

Pulp & Paper
Valmet has completed the acquisition of Körber’s Business Area Tissue, the provider of innovative process technologies and related services for converting tissue jumbo reels into final tissue products. The closing of the transaction follows the agreement that was announced on July 7, 2023.

Cellwood announces that its partnership with RC Machinery has resulted in a new order for a Dispersing unit to Star Paper.

Lake Utopia Paper has successfully completed a seven-day shutdown in Utopia, New Brunswick. The shutdown was required for annual maintenance across the mill and to allow for the final phase of a significant capital improvement project (over $7 million investment) to be completed. The work will continue to ensure the safe and reliable operation of one of Charlotte County’s largest employers.

Containerboard/Packaging
Mondi, a global leader in packaging and paper, has announced that its entire portfolio of kraft papers for packaging has been certified as home or industrially compostable.

Recently, Sun Paper's two state-of-the-art packaging paper machines PM 2 and PM 3 were successfully commissioned at the Nanning, China site within one month. PM 3 successfully passed the tests in only three weeks and achieved a record-breaking start-up time of only one hour from stock on wire to the first saleable paper roll.

ProGroup announced that an agreement has been signed with Sappi whereby ProGroup will take over Sappi's Stockstadt pulp and paper mill in Germany.

Sappi has completed the Higg Facility Environmental Management (FEM) verification audit at its Cloquet mill in Northern Minnesota. The mill is one of the leading dissolving pulp facilities to complete this external verification process.

Ilim Group's Board of Directors has appointed Aleksei Lomko as Chief Executive Officer of JSC Ilim Group effective from October 30, 2023. Lomko replaces Ilim's former CEO, Kseniia Sosnina, who stepped down in mid-July 2023 due to the expiration of her employment contract.

Tomi Sederholm has been appointed as Senior Vice President, UPM Business Control and Finance Operations as of 1 December 2023. He reports to Tapio Korpeinen, Chief Financial Officer, UPM, and he is based in Helsinki, Finland.
