The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released the 64th Paper Industry Annual Capacity and Fiber Consumption Survey. The report provides detailed data on U.S. paper industry capacity and production compiled by the AF&PA statistics team.

Stora Enso said it is estimating that the previous full year 2024 adjusted EBIT guidance will be exceeded due to a successful implementation of profit improvement actions and more favorable market conditions. The company has therefore revised its full year 2024 adjusted EBIT guidance to be significantly higher (+50% and above) than the full year 2023 of EUR 342 million.

Pulp & Paper
Turkish cardboard manufacturer KMK Paper successfully resumed production on PM1 following an extensive rebuild supplied by Toscotec at its Kahramanmaraş facility in Turkey. PM1 produces packaging paper grades, including fluting, testliner, kraft paper, and gypsum board.

The Scandinavian paper and pulp manufacturer Nordic Paper has plants in Sweden, Norway and Canada. The company produces kraft paper and greaseproof paper used for food packaging.

Valmet is to deliver a Bale Tester to Papresa’s paper mill in Errentería, Spain. Valmet Bale Tester is a reliable and real-time measuring system for recovered paper, providing an opportunity to reduce operational costs and to improve the recycled fiber line performance.

Canfor Pulp Products will indefinitely curtail one production line at its Northwood facility in Prince George, British Columbia due to the decline in availability of economic fibre in the northern BC region. The curtailment will result in the reduction of approximately 300,000 metric tons of market kraft pulp annually.

Saudi Arabia’s Middle East Paper Company (MEPCO) has commissioned full-line supplier Voith with the construction of an entire production line for recycled containerboard at its Jeddah mill. The state-of-the-art and highly efficient line will achieve an annual production volume of up to 450,000 tons of high-quality Testliner and Corrugated Medium in the basis weight range of 70 to 140 gsm.

MatrixPack will be the first producer to introduce Dry Molded Fiber Cutlery to the market, with a fully industrialized cutlery set expected to be available by early 2025.

Carccu, a packaging manufacturer based in Sastamala, Finland, has been awarded Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) forest certification. The wood in an FSC-labelled wood product originates from a forest that has been managed in accordance with the principles of environmental, social and economic sustainability.

Valmet has announced the appointment of Rocky Matuska as Vice President, Services, North America. Matuska's appointment will become effective on August 1, 2024. In his new role, Matuska will be responsible for leading and managing all Valmet Services operations in North America. He will also become a member of the North America Area Management Team (AMT).

Stora Enso announced that its Chief Financial Officer and Deputy CEO, Seppo Parvi, has decided to leave Stora Enso to assume a role with a company outside of the forest industry.

Cascades announced the appointment of Hugues Simon as its new President and CEO. Currently, Mr. Simon is President of the Wood Products business at Resolute Forest Products. He will assume his new role at Cascades no later than July 1, 2024.
