Clearwater Paper announced that it temporarily suspended operations at its Augusta, Georgia paperboard facility and its Shelby, North Carolina tissue facility due to the impacts from Hurricane Helene. There was no serious damage to equipment and both facilities are resuming operations.

International technology group ANDRITZ has successfully started up a large new pulp mill for Liansheng Pulp & Paper in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, China. ANDRITZ supplied the complete mill with state-of-the-art technologies for all major process islands.

Kadant Johnson LLC, a subsidiary of Kadant Inc. has been awarded a paper machine steam and condensate system rebuild, including system engineering, dryer drainage equipment, and related steam joints and syphons.

Eren Holding, a family-owned Turkish conglomerate, has officially launched its landmark GBP 1 billion Shotton Mill paper campus at a business meeting attended by senior Ministers from the UK and Welsh governments, along with leading figures from the international business community.

Suzano, the world’s largest pulp producer, completes the acquisition of two industrial assets from Pactiv Evergreen in Arkansas and North Carolina, United States. The acquisition of the mills in Pine Bluff and Waynesville, that manufacture liquid packaging board and cupstock, adds approximately 420,000 metric tons annually of integrated paperboard to Suzano’s production capacity.

Atlantic Packaging Products, Ltd. announced the opening of its newest manufacturing plant in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Valmet is to supply an OptiConcept M containerboard machine with automation and services to Anhui Linping Circular Development in China. The new machine, PM 8, will produce recycled liner grades.

New Products
Austrian Lenzing Group invests in Swedish fiber company TreeToTextile to accelerate development of a new renewable and resource efficient cellulose fiber for textile and nonwoven applications. The fiber aims to replace part of the cotton fiber market and help the industry reduce its environmental footprint significantly.

Scientific instrument manufacturer Scilutions has released 100% biodegradable and recyclable automation racks made from paper pulp. The Pulp Fixin AutoRacks were developed with Zenpack, the San Jose-based packaging design and manufacturing company.

Sustainability
Suzano, the world's largest pulp producer and a global leader in the manufacture of bioproducts developed from eucalyptus, recognized the socio-environmental and quality performance of its suppliers at the second edition of Suzano Valoriza, an event that took place on October 1.

Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, has co-founded an alliance to improve the circularity of used paper bags in the construction industry. The Spain-based alliance, called Paper Sacks Go Circular Spain comprises of 12 European companies from the full value chain including Mondi.

Lucart, the Italian multinational group known for the Tenderly, Tutto Pannocarta, Grazie EcoNatural and Lucart Professional brands, was awarded “Platinum” rating by the independent agency EcoVadis for the third year running, with a score of 85/100 (up from 2023).

Valmet has been awarded a Gold Medal in the EcoVadis sustainability assessment, ranking it among the top five percent of companies evaluated over the past 12 months.

Metsä Board announced that Laura Remes has been appointed SVP, Business Development and a member of the Corporate Management Team. She will start in her position at a time to be specified later, and will report to CEO Mika Joukio.

As of October 1, 2024, Dr. Christian Rink will take over the position of global CFO of the CHT Group held by Prof. Dr. Klaus Müller on an interim basis. In this role, he will be responsible for Finance & Controlling, Information Technology, Digitalization, Compliance Management and Project Management.
