By Rachel Kagan, Executive Director, PPEC Paper bags have been back in the news recently due to a decision by the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) on their new bag supplier. In April 2023, the LCBO announced they would ban paper bags from their stores for environmental reasons, which PPEC and others challenged. A year later, the Premier directed Ontario’s alcohol retailer to reinstate paper bags, which PPEC supported.

Valmet has successfully started up an Advantage DCT 200 TS tissue machine at Kruger Products’ Sherbrooke Tissue Plant in Quebec, Canada. It marks a significant achievement in a project that has been well-executed from start to finish.

Algerian tissue producer WAFA Group has partnered with Toscotec for the turnkey supply of a new AHEAD tissue line (PM1) at their Ain Oussara facility, south of Algiers. The project is planned for 2026.

Kemira plans to consolidate some Pulp & Paper chemical production in North America, resulting in the closure of a manufacturing site in Vancouver, Canada. The Vancouver site produces process and functional chemicals for the Pulp & Paper segment. The planned consolidation is expected to impact approximately five employees.

RunEco Vacuum System has started up at Felix Schoeller Günzach PM14. The delivery included an EP600 Turbo Blower with EcoDrop and EcoSep Water Separators. EcoFlow Dewatering Measurement Systems with 8 measurement points help in determining the correct vacuum level and optimizing energy consumption.
