Today's top five emerging global forest products markets include Brazil, China, India, Mexico, and South Africa, according to a new report issue this past week by Research and Markets, Dublin, Ireland. Titled Forest Products - Top Five Emerging Markets Industry Guide, the report includes comparable data on market value, volume, segmentation, and market share, plus full five-year market forecasts. It examines future problems, innovations, and potential growth areas within the market.

In the context of this report, the forest products industry consists of industrial roundwood, sawnwood, wood panels and sheets, and wood fuels. It excludes "roundwood," i.e., trees after harvesting but before significant processing. It also excludes pulp, paperboard, paper, and similar downstream products. The market's volume represents consumption and is shown in cubic meters. The market's value has been calculated at producer selling price.

These top five emerging countries contributed $65,769.5 million to the global forest products industry in 2011, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.7% between 2007 and 2011, the new report notes. The top five emerging countries, it adds, are expected to reach a value of $95,337.9 million in 2016, with a CAGR of 7.7% over the 2011 - 2016 period.

Brazil is the leading country among the top five emerging nations, with market revenues of $36,318.9 million in 2011. Brazil is expected to lead the forest products industry in the top five emerging nations, with a value of $60,335.3 million in 2016.

The Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC), Ottawa, Ont., Canada, this week announced that David Lindsay will assume the role of its president and CEO "at a time of great transformation in the Canadian forestry sector." Lindsay was most recently a senior deputy minister in the Government of Ontario, serving in the portfolios of Energy and Infrastructure, Northern Development, Mines and Forestry, Natural Resources, Tourism, and Culture.

Before his government role, Lindsay served as president and CEO of the Association of Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology of Ontario. He was the founding president of the Ontario SuperBuild Corp. and the Ontario Jobs and Investment Board. He also served as principal secretary and chief of staff to the premier of Ontario.

"We are delighted to welcome someone of David's caliber and experience," said FPAC Chairman Jim Lopez, president and CEO of Tembec. "He is the ideal person to build on the extraordinary momentum in our industry as it continues to become more innovative, more environmentally friendly, and more global in its reach."

Pratt Industries, Conyers, Ga., USA, says it "believes in giving back to the cities and towns across America where our employees live and work...and we urge others to support charitable organizations in their communities as well." Recently, Pratt got to help another very worthy cause involving children.

In late August, Pratt was a featured sponsor of the annual Back to School Giveaway program that donates free and much- needed clothing and school supplies for less fortunate children in Statesville, N.C., where the company has a large box-making plant. "Pratt Industries was a pretty influential lifeline," Tonya Thomas, of the Statesville Housing Authority, told the local newspaper.

Tonya contacted the company when it became clear the program would fall short of its fund-raising goals. Pratt's donations allowed students the chance to choose from either a pair of jeans or khaki pants, depending on whether the child's school required uniforms, and a collared shirt. They also got to pick up free bags of school supplies including notebooks, colored pencils, and other items.

"Pratt took our fundraising campaign to the next level," said Thomas. "We were all overwhelmed with joy about their much-needed generous donation. It's donations like that that help us do what we love best, which is offering hope through empowerment and meeting the needs in the community."

The Iredell Statesville Community Enrichment Back to School Bash program serves some 1,800 underprivileged youth and hosts a Third Annual Back to School Giveaway to raise funding to purchase gently used and new clothing from local consignment shops, whatever school supplies they can muster, and personal hygiene products. The community children who benefit from this event have a desperate need for the most basic back to school supplies.

At the Back to School event, vendors offer community residents the opportunity to sign up for free after-school enrichment programs, scholarships to the community YMCA, health department basic screenings for dental care, and information on teen pregnancy, personal hygiene, and peer pressure.

Neenah, Wis., USA, will again be the location for the TAPPI Yankee Dryer Safety and Reliability Committee (YDSRC) meeting, scheduled for November 6. Miron Construction has agreed to host the gathering.

The meeting will feature technical presentations on yankee doctor setup and profiling and considerations for metalizing Yankees. The meeting will be co-located with the Lake States TAPPI Energy Forum. More details are available online. YDSRC is an active group of Yankee dryer owner/users and service providers who meet twice annually to reduce delay that causes low productivity and negatively impacts dryer safety and overall business results. Total U.S. industry consumption of recovered paper in July was 2.43 million tons, less than 1% lower than June, according to the  recently published AF&PA (Washington, D.C., USA) July 2012 U.S. Recovered Fiber Monthly Repor. Year-to-date consumption in 2012 is 4% lower than during the same period last year.

U.S. exports of recovered paper, as reported by the U.S. Census Bureau, dropped 3% in June compared with May, led by a steep decrease in pulp substitute exports to China. Year-to-date exports of recovered paper in 2012 are 5.5% lower than during the same period in 2011.

Prices for recovered paper are still pointing down in the U.K, according to Germany-based EUWID Pulp and Paper. There seems to be no end in sight for the negative price trends, it adds, pointing to another price reduction in the domestic and export recovered paper markets in August.

U.K recovered paper exports to China "remained subdued in August due to slow demand from Chinese paper mills," EUWID notes. "In addition," it continues, "several Chinese customers, who were placing higher quality demands on recovered paper deliveries from the U.K. as of recently, were putting pressure on British suppliers to lower their prices to compensate for what they considered low-quality volumes.

Moreover, downward pressure on U.K. export prices in August was exacerbated by falling prices on the recovered paper market in the U.S." Domestic prices for recovered paper headed down on weak demand and good supply. Recovered paper warehouses and yards at many recycled tissue and packaging paper mill were full to the brim in August, EUWID reports.

"Against the background of high stocks and abundant recovered paper supply, EUWID continues, recycled paper manufacturers were rather cautious in ordering new volumes." British recovered paper prices are expected to become cheaper again this month, it says. Despite lower recovered paper due to the holiday season, excess supply will persist for some time, continuing to put pressure on prices, EUWID respondents believe.

U.S. Recycled boxboard prices slipped $20/ton in August, Mark Wilde, senior analyst with Deutsche Bank, reports. Coated recycled board (CRB) prices were down $20 m/m to $870 -$890/ton, he says. Uncoated recycled board (URB) was down $20/ton to $635 - $665/ton. The two key issues are (1) rapidly falling OCC costs, and (2) soft demand. Between the two grades, URB demand is slightly better, Wilde notes.

In the North American coated paper sector, Mark Wilde of Deutsche Bank says that LWC (lightweight coated) paper  is showing signs of some strength. Estimated prices on No. 5, 40-lb offset rolls were up $15/ton to $850 - $890/ton in August. Producers had announced a $40-60/ton price hike for May/June.

The key driver, Wide notes, is improved demand/supply balance from ˜12% reduction in capacity (Verso's 180,000 tpy Sartell PM 3 and Resolute's 150,000 supercalendered machine No.1 at Catawba). July shipments were +0.3% y/y (YTD -2.8%). August No. 3 60-lb CFS (coated free sheet) prices were flat m/m at $965 - $985/ton. Producers failed to implement the $30/ton May price increase. July shipments improved modestly, down -0.9%, Wilde reports.

Uncoated free sheet (UCF) prices were flat in August, Mark Wilde of Deutsche Bank continues. Prices for 20 lb repro-bond were stable at $1,035 - $1,085/ton. Prices for 50 lb offset were flat m/m at $910 - $930/ton. A $40/ton cut-size price hike for late-May/early-June and a $60/ton increase on offset grades have both failed. Trade reports suggest some spot deals on cut-size papers. UFS demand remains sluggish. July shipments were -2.7% y/y (YTD -3.0%), Wilde reports. Additional supply from the restart of the Grays Harbor mill (+135,000 tpy) will be offset by Domtar's conversion of its 270,000 tpy Marlboro mill to specialty grades, he adds.

Uncoated groundwood estimated prices were flat in August, according to Wilde, with 22-lb directory at $790 - $810/ton, 35-lb offset at $650 - $700/ton, and SC-A at $820 - $860/ton. Demand remains anemic. July shipments were down 18.7% y/y, while Q2 shipments were -15.7% y/y. Potential restart of a 360,000 tpy SC paper machine at Pt Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, by late-September could increase supply in the market and pressure prices. Verso's Sartell mill shutdown will reduce SC capacity by a very modest 35,000 tpy, Wilde says.

North American August 30-lb Newsprint East was flat at $640/metric ton, Mark Wilde of Deutsche Bank says. West coast producers Catalyst Paper and Norpac have announced a $30/metric ton price hike on newsprint effective October 1. The price hike is driven by tight supplies on the west coast from the closure of Catalyst Paper's Snowflake mill (277,000 metric tpy).

East coast newsprint prices remain a bit soft, mostly from the restart of White Birch's 150,000 tpy machine at its Stadacona mill. July consumption figures from the Newspaper Association of America point to an 8.4% drop in newsprint consumption as well as a modest uptick in publisher inventories, Wilde reports.

North American pulp prices remain under pressure, reports Mark Wilde with Deutsche Bank. July pulp data was modestly negative, he adds. Hardwood inventories rose four days to 44 days of supply and softwood rose three days to 32 days. Shipments were up 6.3% y/y.

Spot prices in North America are currently at $600 - $640/metric ton. At current spot price levels, most high-cost mills are near breakeven levels. "Unlike softwood, we think there is additional downside risk to U.S. hardwood prices," Wilde says.

Meanwhile, in China, Wilde continues, resale prices have reportedly bounced off the bottom. Both Brazil-based Arauco and Russia-based Ilim have announced September hikes on softwood pulp going into China. Ilim is raising NBSK (northern bleached softwood kraft) pulp prices by $30/metric ton, while Arauco is boosting radiate pine pulp by $10/metric ton. The hikes would set Chinese softwood prices in the $600 - $620/metric ton range, Wilde reports.

Fibria-Jacarei, Brazil, the world's largest bleached eucalyptus pulp producer, has ordered a thick stock screening system from Noss AB Sweden. The RADISCREEN-C coarse screen is for Fabria's JE2 pulp machine at the Jacarei mill in Brazil. Startup is scheduled for next month (October).

The RADISCREEN-C is a highly energy-efficient protection system for a great variety of applications in the pulp and paper industry, covering a wide range of flows and consistencies with only one unit.

Metsä Tissue Oyj, Finland, part of Metsä Group, a European tissue and cooking paper products supplier, has signed a credit agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The EUR 35 million, 8.5-year loan will finance further operational improvements in Poland and Russia.

The ongoing investments at the company's Krapkowice mill in Poland are part of Metsä Tissue's development program aiming to strengthen the company's market position in Continental Europe, improve its production capacity, and enhance its brand and service offering. Productivity will additionally be improved by consolidating Polish tissue base paper production at one mill and by further standardizing technology.

In addition to boosting productivity and energy efficiency, the program will also yield significant environmental benefits such as lower energy consumption and carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide emissions.

Millar Western Forest Products Ltd., Canada, this week reported that it will construct a $42 million bioenergy facility at its bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP) mill at Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada. The project will involve integration of anaerobic hybrid digesters (AHDs) into the BCTMP mill's existing aerobic effluent treatment system.

The AHD units will recover organic material from the pulp mill's effluent stream and convert it to a biogas. After conditioning, the biogas will be used to fuel reciprocating engines, to generate 5.2 MW of renewable energy for use by the company's pulp operations. All required regulatory approvals are now in place, allowing the project to proceed immediately.

Construction for the project will begin this month, with startup slated for late 2013. The project will not disrupt pulp or lumber production at the company's Whitecourt facilities.

Nippon Paper Industries Co., Japan, this past week announced that it has completed construction on a project to allow kraft paper production at its Kushiro mill (Kushiro, Hokkaido) in Japan. The project, part of the company's plan for paper business revitalization, provides quality and operations measures to produce the kraft paper grade at Kushiro.

The project was launched last fall to transfer production of kraft paper from Nippon's Fuji mill (Fuji, Shizuoka) to Kushiro. With an investment of around 2.4 billion yen, a range of construction work was undertaken, including refurbishment of the deinked pulp plant, establishment of facilities to respond to heavy-duty packages of kraft paper with a focus on quality, and "reinforcement" of the finishing facilities.

The Kushiro mill now has the capacity to produce some 52,000 metric tpy of kraft paper.

Nippon Paper Industries, Japan, reports that it has resumed operation of N2 paper machine and coating machine No. 2 at its Ishinomaki Mill (Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture) in Japan. The Ishinomaki mill was damaged and shut down by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.

 With the N2 and coating machine No. 2 startup, the production capability at Ishinomaki mill has recovered to around 850,000 metric tpy, with all six paper machines and two coating machines at the mill having resumed operations based on the company's Plan for Paper Business Revitalization released in August 2011.

Stora Enso Building and Living, Finland, has acquired Finland-based UPM Kymmene's 50% shareholding in the sawn timber trading company RETS Timber Oy of Finland The acquisition makes Stora Enso Building and Living the sole owner of RETS Timber. The transaction is effective immediately.

RETS Timber is a European softwood sawn products supplier to the Middle East and North Africa.

"The Middle East and North Africa are very important markets for us due to increasing construction activity, and the acquisition of RETS shows our commitment to these markets. RETS customers will continue to have the most attractive product offering, a reliable supply, and a specialized sales force, and for Nordic sawn timber producers RETS will continue to be the most cost-efficient marketing channel. What will change is that being the sole owner will enable us to further develop the RETS business together with our Central European trading business, focusing on the same markets," says Hannu Kasurinen, EVP, Stora Enso Building and Living.

The transaction will increase the annual sales of Stora Enso Building and Living by approximately EUR 70 million but will not have a material impact on the operating profit of Stora Enso Building and Living. RETS Timber has about 20 employees.

Papierfabrik Schoellershammer, together with Metso, Finland, has successfully started up Europe's first spray sizing unit for the mill's swing testliner and recycled fluting machine, PM 5, located in Düren, Germany. The new two-sided spraying unit was installed in an existing pond size press, originally delivered by Metso in 2005. After the recent startup, the production line has produced sellable paper from day one and has since been able to successfully produce its full product range with the new equipment.

"This is a big step forward in terms of runnability. Thanks to higher solids, we can now also use increased starch amounts without compromising production capacity. We foresee considerable savings in steam consumption as well," says Konrad Franken, production manager at Papierfabrik Schoellershammer.

The 5-m-wide PM 5 produces testliner and fluting grades in the basis weight range of 90-170 gsm at the maximum production speed of 1,100 m/min. Papierfabrik SchoellershammerDüren produces testliner and fluting board grades from 100% recycled paper (220,000 metric tpy) and high-quality specialty papers (6,000 metric tpy). The family-owned company employs a total of 230 people.

UPM Raflatac, Finland, this week completed its acquisition of the labelstock business operations of Gascogne Laminates Switzerland of the Gascogne Group. Gascogne Laminates Switzerland employs approximately 110 people in its operations at Martigny, Switzerland.

"UPM Raflatac has focused in recent years on growth in special labelstock products. As a result of this transaction, we will strengthen our position in this product area in Europe," saidTapio Kolunsarka, SVP, Europe, Middle-East, and Africa.

Metso, Finland, has launched PressPolar, a new polyurethane roll cover for press rolls. The cover is suitable for large and highly loaded press rolls, mainly used in boardmaking. The PressPolar cover is designed to significantly reduce the energy consumption of roll drives in the press section.

Metso notes that the roll drives in press sections consume remarkable amounts of energy, and also the soft roll covers on roll bodies greatly influence energy consumption. The rolling resistance of a roll cover is what affects the drive power consumption, it adds. In the PressPolar roll cover, due to the new polyurethane material, the rolling resistance is significantly lower than that in conventional rubber and polyurethane roll covers. In addition, a roll with a PressPolar cover needs no internal water cooling. These features provide significantly reduced energy consumption, Metso explains.

Ahlstrom Corp., Finland, reports that Nathalie Ahlström has resigned as a member of Ahlstrom's Board of Directors due to a conflict of interest caused by her taking up a new executive position. The resignation was effective September 1.

Ahlstrom noted that the company and its board of directors "wish to warmly thank Ms. Ahlström for her valuable contributions and wish her all the success in her future endeavors."

The board will continue with six members until the next annual general meeting in 2013: Peter Seligson (chairman), Pertti Korhonen (vice chairman), Sebastian Bondestam, Lori J. Cross, Esa Ikäheimonen, and Anders Moberg.

Member Jay Kaplan has been associated with TAPPI since 1994 when he was living in the Chicago area working for Stone Container. But it wasn't until years later that he finally took full personal advantage of all the benefits inherent in TAPPI membership, "the industry's best resource for technical support and information on emerging technologies and cutting edge science."

Having been mentored early in his career by serveral long-time TAPPI members, Jay says their influence set the groundwork for his future involvement. Through the years he has practiced in numerous meetings and shows at both the local and national level, and is now very involved in SuperCorrExpo, the largest tradeshow in the western hemisphere catering to the corrugated industry. "It's through events like these that you form and nurture professional relationships that help drive sustainable business improvements that may not have been achieved as quickly or at all without the common ground and opportunity that TAPPI provides."

Jay also believes this exposure to emerging technologies, technical expertise, and experts from outside his own company have played an integral role in his professional growth. Now serving as the Manager for Learning an Organizational Development for Corrugated Packaging at RockTenn, he says that use of TAPPI's website, the eLibrary, technical support, and industry news are all important elements to stay on the cutting edge of your career. And, furthermore, Jay puts his actions where his words are. Not content to just tell his peers and fellow employees about the benefits of membership, he recently brought a new group of new and future production managers to TAPPI's headquarters in Norcross, Ga., USA, for a tour and afternoon of learning. Lake States TAPPI/North Central PIMA will host the 13th Annual "Guns of Navarino" on Tuesday, September 25, at J&H Game Farm in Navarino, Wis., USA. This event is designed to help relieve work related stress through a series of team building activities culminating in an evening of social interaction. Sounds good, doesn't it? Just ask anyone who has been to one of our past outings.

This event will begin at 11:30 a.m. on September 25, and the actual tournament gets underway as soon as teams assemble, at approximately 12:30 p.m. The format will be five-person teams. Individual shooters and teams of less than five are also welcome. We will make every effort to have complete teams of five for the competition. Registration is limited to the first 30 teams (150 shooters). The cost for the event will be $120.00 per person ($600.00 per team). Registration includes the following:

Don Lampard, Honorary Life Member of Appita and its Secretary/Treasurer for 15 years, died in Melbourne, Australia, on July 30, 2012. He was a member of Appita for 46 years.

Early in 1928, on the eve of the Great Depression, Don was born to struggling farmers who worked an unviable soldier settler block near Mildura. Family fortunes improved when they were allocated to a better property near Hopetoun followed by the purchase of the town's general store. This enabled Don to complete his secondary schooling as a boarder, first at Ballarat College and then Wesley. On completing secondary schooling he was appointed to a position as a lab assistant with ICI where he worked until 1959. During his early years with ICI he studied part-time and in 1951 obtained an Associate Diploma in Applied Chemistry from Melbourne Technical College, the forerunner of RMIT.

Following periods as development chemist and plant superintendent at South Austrailian Rubber Mills, and factory chemist and production manager at Laminex, Don's long love affair with paper industry standards commenced in 1966. He was appointed as the secretary of Austrailian Paper Manufacturers (APM) Testing Committee and of the Testing Committee of Appita. This love affair was to last almost 30 years. The role involved the maintenance of a well-established system of APM and Appita standards under the experienced eye of senior APM employee and Appita Testing Committee Chairman, Oetel Nadebaum.

From the outset Don sought to align Appita standards with the international ISO standards, or vice-versa. He promoted the acceptance of ISO paper sizes and sat on the Pulp, Paper, and Printing Sector Committee for the introduction of metric units in Australia. He was a strong representative for Australia and New Zealand on ISO/TC 6, internationally for his expertise. He chaired ISO/TC 6 Working Groups on test atmospheres, thickness testing, air performance, roughness, compression testing equipment, and edgewise compression strength and was a member of countless others. He attended 11 ISO meetings from his first in Philadelphia in 1970 to his final meeting in 1995.

Don relinquished his position with APM early in 1973 to become the secretary/treasurer (executive director) of Appita on the retirement of Frank Hunter, combining this with his Appita and ISO testing standards activities. Oetel Nadebaum retired later that year and George Redding, APM Quality Controller, took over as Appita Testing Committee chairman. When APM devolved control of operations to mills, George Redding left the industry and Don became the Chairman of Appita Testing Committee, a position he held until his retirement.

With his appointment as secretary/treasurer of Appita, Don faced the task of building a more professional operation and addressing the financial challenges faced by the organization. Appointing two full time staff and a part-time bookkeeper, and with the assistance of dedicated Appita members, the quality of the Appita Journal was improved, the revenue from advertising was increased and the Conference Exhibition became a key source of funds. Lorraine Geal played a significant part in Appita's commercial activities and her untimely death in 1975 was a setback for Appita and was keenly felt by Don.

Under Don's leadership, Appita's financial position had improved considerably by the end of the 1970s and new initiaves were taken: Appita local sections were strengthened. The first of the Jasper Mardon courses was held in 1979. The first annual Appita Visiing Speaker, Dr. Derek Page, toured in 1980. The first Oetel Nadebaum award was made in 1985. That year, Appita membership, which was just over 1,000 in 1973, had reached 1,275.

Don Lampard retired from the position of secretary/treasurer of Appita in 1985 and was replaced by Peter Brown. In recognition of his substantial contribution to Appita, Don was made the 17th Honorary Life Member. While Peter took over the position of Chairman of Appita Testing Committee, Don continued as its secretary and his expertise in test standards was not easily replaced. In this role, he continued to make a major contribution to local and ISO paper industry standards until his final retirement following the Beijing meeting of ISO/TC 6 in 1995.

Don was a quiet but firm achiever, with an eye for detail and ability to communicate with the newest Appita members, senior company management and visiting dignitaries. His achievements were not confined to the office, meeting room, and conference venue. He had a passion for golf which he played with some skill as demonstrated by such highlights as winning the pairs event with John Pierce at the 1987 Appita Melbourne Section golf day.

A Call for Papers has been issued for PaperCon 2013. Theme is "Innovation Generation."

After record attendance in 2012, PaperCon will again bring together CEOs, mill managers, superintendents, scientists, process engineers, and suppliers for the largest pulp and paper technical program in the world. The event will take place April 27 to May 1 in Atlanta, Ga., USA. Learn more about PaperCon 2013.

For 2013, PaperCon is pleased to welcome the Tissue360 Forum, NETInc (Innovative Nonwovens Conference), RPTA (Recycled Paperboard Technical Association) P-T Seminar and the OpEx Reliability Workshop. Each of these events is open to full PaperCon registrants and papers in these areas are welcome.

Calls for Papers and Posters have been issued. The conference theme is Innovation Generation, and authors are encouraged to include this within their papers. Topics under consideration include mill management, papermaking, coating, tissue, nonwovens, and recycled paperboard. Paper company personnel, suppliers, academics, and students are strongly encouraged to submit their ideas for papers, posters, or roundtable discussions.

Papermakers Program:

The Papermakers Program encourages topics on paper machine performance evaluations, papermaking fundamentals, product/process optimization, recycled paperboard, tissue making (Tissue360 Forum), and the RPTA P-T Seminar. The deadline for submission of abstracts is November 20, 2012. Abstracts for panel discussions and roundtables are welcome. See Papermakers Program Call for Papers.

Coating and Graphic Arts Program:

The Coating and Graphic Arts Program will focus on The Future of Print and its Demands on Paper and Coatings. The deadline for extended abstracts for this program is Oct. 16, 2012.   See the Coating and Graphic Arts Program Call for Papers.

On Nov. 7-9, 2012, TAPPI will conduct its Tissue Runnability Course in Neenah, Wi., USA.

This special course is being taught by technical experts in each area of the machine from wet end operations through creping and process control. The experienced, highly qualified faculty for this course will provide a thorough understanding of the entire tissue making process and current best practices in each area.

Wednesday's (November 7) classes will focus on stock preparation and wet end operations, while Tuesday's (November 8) classes cover pressing, drying, and doctoring. Frank Romano to Keynote at PaperCon 2013

Frank Romano, Professor Emeritus, Rochester Institute of Technology, will Keynote at Papercon 2013 on Sunday, April 21. Focusing on "Innovation and the Future of Print," Romano will kick-off PaperCon's Coating and Graphic Arts Program.

Romano's career has spanned an impressive 53 years in the printing and publishing industries. Many know him as the editor of the International Paper "Pocket Pal" for 30 years, or have read one of the thousands of articles he has written. He is the author of 52 books, including the 10,000-term Encyclopedia of Graphic Communications (with Richard Romano), the standard reference in the field.

The 2013 TAPPI International Conference on Nanotechnology for Renewable Materials will be held July 24-27, 2013, on the KTH Royal Institute of Technology campus in Stockholm, Sweden. Industry experts, scientists, health and safety specialists, legal and government policy makers, as well as the field's leading researchers will discuss the latest in nanotechnology research and development.

The 2013 Technical Program Committee has issued a Call for Papers inviting contributions from participants working in research, development, and deployment of renewable nanomaterials.

Abstracts are due by December 3, 2012.
