Stronger Plastic Created by Adding 50% Nanoscale Lignin
A new production process interconnects equal parts of nanoscale lignin in a synthetic rubber matrix to produce a meltable, moldable, ductile material that's 10x tougher than ABS. The resulting thermoplastic—called ABL for acrylonitrile, butadiene, lignin—is recyclable, can be melted three times, and still perform well.

In Memoriam: Neil George Vander Linden
Vander Linden was technical manager for Mead Westvaco in Charleston for 30 years, retiring in 2003. He was president of the Georgia Tech Pulp and Paper Foundation, and was selected as a TAPPI Fellow in 1992, the association's highest honor for those who have served an entire career in the industry as Vander Linden had.
