Acquisition by VPK of Corenso's European and Chinese activities, consisting of two coreboard mills and 13 core converting plants. The activities of Corenso in North America will continue to be owned by NPAC International. The Broadway mill is one of GP’s largest facilities and the largest of five facilities in Green Bay, with more than 1,000 employees. Between 2013 and 2017, a team at the Broadway mill set out to reduce its overall SO2 emissions. The results were dramatic. The Broadway mill reduced its SO2 footprint by 94% compared to a decade ago.

As part of the mill’s ongoing project to reduce carbon emissions, it integrated the steam systems from all three paper machines by incorporating a sophisticated control system. The machines operate at different speeds using a variety of paper weights which added to the complexity of the task.

Aim of the project is to accelerate the reintroduction of species inhabiting deadwood to forests by planting these fungi to deadwood concentrations in the company forests. The project advances UPM’s target to improve the biodiversity of the company forests in Finland. Increasing deadwood is a key method for achieving this target.
