Combined Locks, Wis., USA founded when the paper mill opened in 1889, braced for the loss of its largest employer and feared that the community would be left with a hulking industrial wasteland, just like the other failed paper mills dotting the state. And for the first time since high school, Mr. Strick, who was then 58, started looking for a new job.

Euro-Graph Publishes Monthly Statistics of the European Graphic Papers Industry
Total European shipments of graphic papers in January 2019 were down 4.6% vs. January 2018 and are down 4.6% year-to-date. Total European shipments of newsprint in January 2019 were up 1.1% vs. January 2018 and are up 1.1% year-to-date.
 
Moody's Outlook for Global Paper and Forest Products Industry Changed to Negative
"The negative outlook for the global paper and forest products industry reflects a 2%-4% decline in industry operating income over the next year or so," said Ed Sustar, a Moody's SVP. "Increasing paper packaging prices and demand for paper packaging and pulp will only partially offset rising input costs, declining demand for paper and lower wood product and market pulp prices." Skjern Papirfabrik Selects Toscotec to Rebuild Dryer Section of PM 1
Delivery is scheduled for the third quarter of 2019. PM1 has a wire width of 3,200 mm and produces core board from 90 to 450 gsm using 100% recycled fibers. It will get a new frame for the entire dryer section and 19 TT SteelDryers, designed for an operating steam pressure of 10 barg, and equipped with bearing housings, steam fits, and turbulence bars. The TT SteelDryers will replace most of the mill’s existing cast iron cans. Scope of supply also includes: a new tail blowing system in the press section and new mechanical drives for the entire PM.

With a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and an MBA, Jean-David Tardif first joined Cascades in 1997. His career path has led him to work successively for each of the company's three groups. In the Tissue Group, he was VP Consumer Products, from 2013 to 2017. Since December 2017 , he has held the position of VP, Operations for Cascades Containerboard Packaging.
