Crossroads Paper has plans to construct a recycled-paper mill in Utah, expected to open in early 2022, the company announced Wednesday afternoon at the Red Butte Garden in Salt Lake City. Once completed, it will be the only operating paper mill in the state. Currently, the closest paper mills to Utah are in New Mexico, Oregon and California.

The first production has now been carried out on a paper machine. This has been done at the dedicated pilot machine FEX at RISE, Research Institutes of Sweden. It is an important step forward that confirms the possibility of industrial production of the electrode material. OTW has focused on news about paper battery development for the past several years.

According to the court-appointed trustee of Flambeau River Papers, Rebecca DeMarb, CellMark Papers accounts for 80% of the mill’s total revenue. When CellMark ceased payments on June 5, the mill was no longer able to make payroll and the vast majority of its employees were laid off, leaving only 26 individuals employed by the mill.

In Italy, the new Rotoloni Regina line, Rotoloni Regina Eco, will be arriving in supermarkets from July. This new line, with packs made of kraft paper – a plant-based material that is renewable, biodegradable and easy to recycle – instead of standard polyethylene film, joins the traditional range and is manufactured using electricity from 100% renewable sources, generated at the Sofidel production plants.

When completed in 2021, the bioenergy produced as a result of this project will be approximately 20 GWh per year, representing a reduction of CO2 emissions of 1,200 tonnes.
