Moody's 2020 Outlook for The Global Paper and Forest Products Industry Remains Negative
The outlook for the global paper and forest products industry in the coming year remains negative, Moody's Investors Service says in its 2020 outlook for the sector. Earnings from paper, paper packaging and market pulp will all decline primarily as excess supply causes prices to fall.
 
U.S. Printing-Writing Paper Shipments Decreased in November 2019
The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) has released the November 2019 Printing-Writing Monthly report. According to the report, total printing-writing paper shipments decreased 11 percent in November compared to November 2018.

BTG to Supply Online Kappa Analyzer to Iggesund Paperboard AB
Iggesund Paperboard AB decided to opt for an online Fibber Kappa analyzer from BTG to measure fiber kappa at the outlet of the continuous digester of the hardwood fiberline of its integrated pulp mill in Iggesund, Sweden. Online Kappa analysis at the digester blowline is performed under extreme process conditions and the measurement is critical for the control of the cooking process.
 
BCI Houston Completes New Building
On December 16, 2019 BCI launched its new 260,000 s/f Sheet Plant in Houston, TX. Located in The Pinto Industrial Park near Highway 45 and Beltway 8, the new facility is about 20 miles North of downtown Houston and serves as the base of operations for our 98 associates.
 
Kemira Expands Bleaching Chemical Production Capacity in U.S. to Meet Long-Term Global Pulp Demand
Kemira is investing USD 20 million at its Eastover, South Carolina site to increase available sodium chlorate capacity. Sodium chlorate is the main component used in the production of chlorine dioxide (ClO2), which is produced on-site at pulp mills and is the primary bleaching agent for Kraft pulp in the pulp and paper industry.

Valmet has received an order for an Advantage ThruAir machine from Irving Consumer Products. This is a repeat order of the Advantage ThruAir machine that was started up recently in 2019. The new machine is planned to start-up in 2022 and will continue to support Irving’s commitment to provide ultra-premium products to the North American market.

New-Indy Containerboard to Invest $240 Million to Convert Production at Catawba Mill
New-Indy Containerboard announced plans to invest $240 million to convert production at its recently acquired pulp and paper mill in Catawba, South Carolina from lightweight coated paper to containerboard grades. New-Indy acquired the Catawba mill from Resolute Forest Products in October of this year for the total purchase price of about US$300 million — $260 million in cash and the assumption of approximately $40 million of balance sheet liabilities, largely net pension benefit obligations.
