Pixelle Specialty Solutions announced that it will close its mill located in Jay, Maine in the first quarter of 2023. The mill employs approximately 230 people who will be affected by the closure.
 
Metsä Group announced that its Äänekoski bioproduct mill in Finland will hold its annual maintenance shutdown, by department, on Sunday, Oct. 2 and restart operations Oct. 6.
 
Georgia-Pacific announced that it is investing more than $425 million in Jackson, Tennessee, to build a state-of-the-art Dixie® manufacturing facility. The new plant will significantly increase the supply of disposable tableware products.
 
In August, the Chinese paper manufacturer Shanying Suzhou Paper commissioned Voith to supply two XcelLine paper machines with comprehensive digitalization and automation solutions as well as services and spare parts packages for its new site in Zhongying, Anhui Province, in eastern China.

Cascades said that it is temporarily shutting down one of its two tissue paper machines at its St. Helens, Oregon facility due to structural issues of the building housing the machine.
 
Ahlstrom Munksjö Billingsfors Installs Pulp Analyzer from PulpEye
Another milestone has been passed in that PulpEye no. 80 has been sold to Ahlstrom-Munksjö’s specialty paper mill in Billingsfors in Sweden. It is a successful and niche specialty paper mill with large customers in, among other things, steel and furniture manufacturing.

Dunn Paper announced that they will cease production at their Port Huron, Michigan paper mill.

Tero Ojala has been appointed Project Director as of 1 October 2022. He will report to Ari Kiviranta, SVP Technology and moves to Metsä Board from the position of UPM's Project Director.
