Twelve TAPPI Standards approved as American National Standards!
The following TAPPI Standards have been approved as American National Standards by the ANSI Board of Standards Review.
New American National Standards:
- T 549 om-20 Coefficients of static and kinetic friction of uncoated writing and printing paper by use of the horizontal plane method
- T 553 om-20 Alkalinity of paper as calcium carbonate (alkaline reserve of paper)
- T 567 om-20 Determination of effective residual ink concentration (ERIC) by infrared reflectance measurement
- T 580 om-20 Thickness (caliper) of towel, tissue, napkin and facial products
Approved reaffirmation of current American National Standards:
- T 401 om-20 Fiber analysis of paper and paperboard
- T 480 om-20 Specular gloss of paper and paperboard at 75 degrees
- T 511 om-20 Folding endurance of paper (MIT tester)
- T 524 om-20 Color of paper and paperboard (45/0, C/2)
- T 558 om-20 Surface wettability and absorbency of sheeted materials using an automated contact angle tester
Approved revision of current American National Standards:
- T 441 om-20 Water absorptiveness of sized (non-bibulous) paper, paperboard, and corrugated fiberboard (Cobb test)
- T 515 om-20 Visual grading and color matching of paper
- T 836 om-20 Bending stiffness, four point method
Notices of the approvals of the TAPPI Standards as American National Standards were placed in the November 13, 2020 and November 20, 2020 editions of ANSI Standards Action.
Special thanks to the SSIG members below for being the Working Group Chairs (WGCs) in the recently published reviews of TAPPI and TAPPI/ANSI Standards:
- Ben Frank - WGC for T 441 om-20 Water absorptiveness of sized (non-bibulous) paper, paperboard, and corrugated fiberboard (Cobb test) and for T 836 om-20 Bending stiffness, four point method
- Todd Popson - WGC for T 515 om-20 Visual grading and color matching of paper
- Dennis Crawshaw - WGC for T 524 om-20 Color of paper and paperboard (45/0, C/2)
- Steve Berg - WGC for T 549 om-20 Coefficients of static and kinetic friction of uncoated writing and printing paper by use of the horizontal plane method and for T 580 om-20 Thickness (caliper) of towel, tissue, napkin and facial products
The TAPPI Standards Department would also like to express its gratitude to all volunteers who participated in the review of those Standards as SSIG members.
Special note: Documents appearing in the TAPPI online version of the Standards and TIPs are updated once a month (usually around the 15th). So it is possible that there is a delay between the publication announcement and the posting online. If you are a subscriber to the online access to Standards and TIPs and you are in a hurry for new documents that have not yet been posted, you can send a request for TIPs to tip@tappi.org or for Standards to standards@tappi.org.
