Special note: Documents appearing in the TAPPI online version of the Standards and TIPs are updated once a month (usually around the 15th). So it is possible that there is a delay between the publication announcement and the posting online. If you are a subscriber to the online access to Standards and TIPs and you are in a hurry for new documents that have not yet been posted, you can send a request to standards@tappi.org.
The TAPPI Standards regulations require public review of standards that are up for ballot. TAPPI members can view any drafts that are in ballot by logging in to the TAPPI web site (www.tappi.org), clicking on "My TAPPI," and then clicking on the "Standards Public Draft Review" link on the left side of the page. If you would like to review and comment on any draft and are not a member of the corresponding Standard-Specific Interest Group (SSIG), you may view the draft on line or you may request a copy of the draft being balloted by writing to standards@tappi.org. TAPPI members may join SSIGs as permanent members; go to the Subject Category page to download forms for this purpose. Nonmembers of TAPPI may join any SSIG as a voting member; to do so, send a message to standards@tappi.org to receive a copy of the draft and a ballot.
Listed below are TAPPI Standards that have recently gone out for ballot to the corresponding Standard-Specific Interest Group (SSIG). The date in parentheses is the closing date for voting.
T 665 cm-02 "Analysis of talc" (May 7, 2012)
In response to requests from members who want to better understand how to participate in the development and review of TAPPI Standards and Technical Information Papers (TIPs), a booth will be open at the PaperCon 2012 conference to provide information and to display what Standards and TIPs are up for review in 2012.
Stop by the booth to:
* See all the Standards and TIPs that are up for review in 2012
* Sign up for Standard-Specific Interest Groups (SSIGs) to vote on Standards, and cast your "early vote" on site if you like
* Find out about volunteering to help review TIPs
* Discuss ideas for new Standards or TIPs, and learn how to propose new projects
The booth will share space with TAPPI Membership and TAPPI PRESS and will be located on the third floor of the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel near TAPPI registration outside the Napolean Ballroom. It will be open from Sunday, April 22 through Wednesday, April 25.
To read more about the Paper Con Conference, go to www.papercon.org.
The system for review and development of TAPPI Standards requires an announcement of review dates so that any interested TAPPI parties may access the drafts, submit comments, and/or join the Standard-Specific Interest Group (SSIG) to cast an official vote.
Listed below are the Standards that will be up for review in 2012. The date indicated is the target date on which the draft will be posted for review by TAPPI members in the Members Only section of the TAPPI website. On that date, you may go to the home page (www.tappi.org), log on with your member ID and password, place your cursor over "Membership," and select "My TAPPI" from the dropdown box. When your personal page appears, click on the "Standards Public Draft Review" link on the left-hand side. You do not have to be a member of the Standard Specific Interest Group to comment on the draft.
Nonmembers of TAPPI who wish to be part of the voting for any Standard should send a message to standards@tappi.org and request voting membership on the corresponding SSIG, prior to the target ballot date, if possible. Anyone who joins the SSIG before the target balloting date will receive a notice of the ballot. Nonmembers cannot access the drafts online, but they will be sent copies by email upon request after receiving the notice of ballot by email.
If you have joined the Standard Specific Interest Group for any Standard, you will receive a notice for ballot at the proper time with instructions for casting your vote and making your comments. If you wish to join the Standard Specific Interest Group for a particular Standard, please go to the Subject Categories for Standards page or contact the Standards Department at TAPPI (standards@tappi.org), or phone +1-770-209-7276 or fax +1-770-446-6947).

Reports outlining the overdue reviews for Standards and TIPs were sent to the Quality and Standards Management Committee (Q&SMC) on February 17, 2012. Copies of these reports were also sent to the assigned Working Group Chairmen for these overdue reviews as well as to chairmen of the appropriate technical groups in TAPPI.
Anyone who did not receive the overdue reports but who have an interest may obtain copies by requesting them from standards@tappi.org.
Working Group Chairmen: These reports were sent to you for your information and action, if required. Q&SMC may, according to the Standards Guidelines, withdraw any Standards or TIPs whose reviews are overdue, especially if it appears that little progress is being made on the Work Item. If more information or indications of progress on these Work Items are received prior to the next meeting (April 24, 2012), Q&SMC will take these reports of progress under consideration.
To provide updates regarding these reports, send a message to to standards@tappi.org no later than Thursday, April 19, 2012, in order to be able to provide this information to Q&SMC at their April 24meeting.
For details on these commonly-used acronyms in the development of TAPPI Standards and TIPs, please see the Standards Guidelines and the TIP Guidelines, or send your questions to standards@tappi.org.
