If you are a subscriber to the online access to Standards and TIPs and you are in a hurry for new documents that have not yet been posted, you can send a request for TIPs to tip@tappi.org or for Standards to standards@tappi.org.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Migration of the Standards Online Balloting System
TAPPI Standards Online Balloting System, Kavi, migrated on March 25, 2019 to TAPPI Connect. This means that the website that is now hosting the current balloting system (Workspace) is TAPPI Connect. Since then, SSIG members will get access to the balloting system with their TAPPI Connect login and password (this is the same login and password that those members use to login to tappi.org). If you are a SSIG member and you don’t have a TAPPI Connect account yet, you may set up one through this link: https://connect.tappi.org/register.
The migration was performed by HigherLogic, the company who now owns Kavi. Although the new Workspace looks very similar to Kavi, some SSIG rosters were not migrated correctly, which may have caused some SSIG members to experience issues when trying to log in to the Workspace through Connect. TAPPI has been working tirelessly with HigherLogic to have the rosters and other functionalities working properly. Some progress has been done, but final adjustments are still needed.
Until those issues are resolved, any ballots that were in progress on the migration day will continue having their deadlines postponed. Also, no new ballots will be opened until the rosters are accurate.
On behalf of TAPPI, I apologize for the inconvenience that this situation might have caused.
Thank you very much for dedicating your time and knowledge to review TAPPI Standards!
Best regards,
Priscila Briggs

New Staff at the Standards Department
I am happy to announce that TAPPI Standards Department has a new member: Deborah Dodson has just joined TAPPI to be the new Standards Coordinator. Deborah has an extensive background as a Project Specialist with experience in both customer facing and internal data validation, order management, project reporting and product support and will be giving full support in all activities related to the Standards Department, including Standards, TIPs, Useful Methods, ISO and ANSI. Deborah will also be present at the committee meetings, assisting the volunteers with any questions related to the reviews of Standards, TIPs or ISO documents. If you have any question or concern regarding TAPPI documents, Deborah will also be checking any correspondence sent to standards@tappi.org or tip@tappi.org.
Best regards,

The updated scope of the proposal for a new Technical Information Paper is shown below, as well as the assigned Subject Category, the date when the Work Item was opened, the title of the new proposal and the name of the Working Group Chair (WGC).
0416 - Steam & Power / Energy Management 11/6/17 Sootblower Safety and Upgrade Guideline - WGC: Mohomed Ishaq Jameel Updated Scope: The availability of the Recovery boiler is critical to the continuous operation of a Kraft pulp and paper mill. Sootblowers play a crucial role to the safe and efficient operation of the boiler. These sootblowers operate on a continuous basis and so, the lack of availability of any critical blowers for an extended period of time leads to heavy fouling of the heat transfer surfaces and the eventual plugging of the flue gas passes. This TIP addresses the best practices for the operation and maintenance of these pieces of equipment. It provides a window into common problem areas and some suggestions to avoid them. It covers some of the crucial components and subcomponents of a sootblower. General recommendations of what to do and what NOT to do when it comes to the proper and safe operation sootblower is covered. The owners should always consult their O&M manuals and the manufacturers for specific details on their equipment. This TIP does not provide any design standards, specific operating parameters or guidelines for acceptance criteria when it comes to inspection. This TIP is not intended to evaluate or compare designs of different sootblower models nor to provide detailed welding procedures. It is expected that the tubes carrying steam satisfy the welding requirements under ASME section IX. This TIP serves as a reference to owners/users of sootblowers.
If you would like to join the Working Group or review the final draft for this new proposal, please write to tip@tappi.org

Reports outlining the overdue reviews for Standards and TIPs were sent to the Quality and Standards Management Committee (Q&SMC) on April 3, 2019 and April 10, 2019, respectively. Copies of these reports were also sent to the assigned Working Group Chairmen for these overdue reviews as well as to chairmen of the appropriate technical groups in TAPPI.
Anyone who did not receive the overdue reports but who has an interest may obtain copies by requesting them from standards@tappi.org.
Working Group Chairmen: These reports were sent to you for your information and action, if required. Q&SMC may, according to the Standards Guidelines, withdraw any Standards or TIPs whose reviews are overdue, especially if it appears that little progress is being made on the Work Item. If more information or indications of progress on these Work Items are received prior to the next meeting (May 7, 2019), Q&SMC will take these reports of progress under consideration.
To provide updates regarding these reports, send a message to standards@tappi.org no later than April 29, 2019, in order to be able to provide this information to Q&SMC at their May 7, 2019 meeting.
