General Announcements

APPI Journal Joining the Open Access Movement

An internationally recognized technical publication for over 60 years, TAPPI Journal (TJ) publishes the latest and most relevant research on the forest products and related industries. A stringent peer-review process and distinguished editorial board of academic and industry experts set TAPPI Journal apart as a reliable source for impactful basic and applied research and technical reviews.

Beginning in 2020, TJ is joining the Open Access (OA) movement and improving the accessibility of its published articles. The OA movement increases researcher engagement and makes research more visible and accessible. This new format will be able to better help researchers meet their funding and grant application requirements and potentially increase the number of citations.

As in the past, TAPPI Journal is maintaining its rigorous peer review process and the copyright remains with the author. And, unlike other technical journals, TJ does not require a publication fee.

For the first year after publication, TAPPI members will be able to download articles published in TAPPI Journal for free as an exclusive member benefit and nonmembers can download the articles for a fee. On the one year anniversary of the issue’s publication, the articles will be accessible at no charge to everyone.

And, if that weren’t enough, your paper could win the $2,000 Honghi Tran TAPPI Journal Best Paper Prize presented at PaperCon. Submit your abstract today.

Standards Coming Up For Review

The 2019/2020 Standards listed below are all due for review.  Due to the migration issues in 2019 and our plan to have a new balloting system in place this year, we do not have a set schedule as yet.  Once a clear timeframe has been established, we will update the list in the STAR Newsletter and on our website.

If you wish to participate in the SSIGs that will review these Standards or if you would like to request a copy of the drafts in ballot, please send your request to TAPPI at standards@tappi.org.

Thank you for your patience and support while we diligently work through and resolve the migration issues.  We look forward to bringing you an improved balloting experience in the future!
