TIP 200-01 Guidelines for Tension During Web Conveyance and for Winding
The scope of this TIP is to provide guidelines for suggested amount of web tension that should be used to convey certain types of web materials that are common to the paper, paperboard, polymer film, extrusion coating and flexible packaging industries.
Publishing date: March 31st, 2022
Purchasing link: https://imisrise.tappi.org/TAPPI/Products/01/0108020001.aspx
As David Roisum, Ph.D. of Finishing Technologies, Inc has noted- “This TIP has greatly improved with regard to application guidelines while preserving the numerical core of the guidelines themselves because they are well-experienced and well enough done.”
As Kelly Frey of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company has stated “Hopefully the edits that our team provided is just the “icing on the cake” that helps to continue to improve this TIP that has a lot of valuable information around producing a good quality roll.” He also stated that “operators at CP Chemical and many in the industry have found this Tension Tip useful.”
Also Beth Warren, PE at Pregis Flexible and Protective Packaging explains that “This is a great standard for web tension that I have returned back to many times in my career in the converting industry. I often refer work colleagues to this tip when they struggle with finding a good starting point for tension settings for new products. The improvements made it this updated TIP, Guidelines for tension during web conveyance and for winding will help even more with applications in the future.”

If no progress is made on balancing these SSIGs, then the respective methods may be considered for withdrawal at the next Q&SMC meeting. If you have an interest in becoming a member of either of these SSIGs please contact standards@tappi.org. or visit tappi.org/JoinStandards.
The system for review and development of TAPPI Standards requires an announcement of review dates so that any interested TAPPI parties may accessmthe drafts, submit comments, and/or join the Standard-Specific Interest Group (SSIG) to cast an official vote. Listed below are the Standards that will be up for review in 2021. The date indicated is the target date on which the draft will be distributed to the SSIG for that particular Standard. Any interested individuals who wish to be part of the voting for any Standard should send a message to standards@tappi.org and request voting membership on the corresponding SSIG, prior to the target ballot date, if possible. Anyone who joins the SSIG before the target balloting date will receive a notice of the ballot. If you have joined the Standard Specific Interest Group for any Standard, you will receive a notice for ballot at the proper time with instructions for casting your vote and making your comments. If you wish to join the Standard Specific Interest Group for a particular Standard, please go to the Subject Categories on the Standards page or contact the Standards Department at TAPPI (standards@tappi.org), or phone +1-770-209-7249.
