Special note: Documents appearing in the TAPPI online version of the Standards and TIPs are updated once a month (usually around the 30th). So it is possible that there is a delay between the publication announcement and the posting online. If you are a subscriber to the online access to Standards and TIPs and you are in a hurry for new documents that have not yet been posted, you can send a request for TIPs to tip@tappi.org or for Standards to standards@tappi.org.

TAPPI = Instant Network Successful networking is not about collecting contacts. It’s about planting relationships
You’ve probably seen books and articles with this message. Relationships are the new currency (it’s the 2022 version of "it’s not what you know but who you know"). Well, that still rings true. Your TAPPI membership instantly increased your potential network. You can connect with people who can inspire you, help you problem-solve, or just help you do your job better. Staying connected has never been so important, or easy.
Your membership gives you an instant network of 6,000+ experts, solution finders and problem solvers, plus an entire eLibrary (25,000+ documents) of technical papers, articles, whitepapers and peer-reviewed presentations from TAPPI Conferences.
Let your fingers do the work.
TAPPI's Member Directory helps you find contact information for both individuals and companies that are TAPPI members. Searchable by key word, company name, first or last name, email or city, state and country – the directory can help you pin-point your search.
Go Local.
Surround yourself with colleagues who share the same interests in one of TAPPI's Divisions, Committees or Technical Groups. And meet colleagues that live and work in your area through a TAPPI Local Section meeting.
TIP 0425-03: Design, Monitoring and Maintenance Guidelines for Yankee Dryer Bearings This document is intended to provide general guidelines for Yankee dryer bearings regarding design, monitoring, maintenance, and operation. Yankee dryer bearings are critical to the safe and reliable operation of the paper machine. The degree of time and expense spent on monitoring and maintenance of the bearings represents a fraction of the cost of a failure. Improved bearing designs as well as advanced techniques for inspection and maintenance have resulted in fewer bearing failures. These guidelines represent a compilation of information from various equipment suppliers and end users.
Since Yankee dryer bearings operate at different speeds, on a variety of different sized dryers (both diameter and width) and different dryer materials (cast iron vs. steel), universal procedures are not practical. The following guidelines for safe, reliable, and economical operations must be considered along with the mill’s experience, the age of the equipment, and the knowledge of the bearing design. Bearing monitoring criteria will evolve over time as the mill gains the experience.

If no progress is made on balancing these SSIGs, then the respective methods may be considered for withdrawal at the next Q&SMC meeting. If you have an interest in becoming a member of either of these SSIGs please contact standards@tappi.org. or visit tappi.org/JoinStandards.
The next meeting of the Standards Advisory Review Group (SARG) is scheduled for October 20, 2022, 1:00pm – 2:00pm (ET). SARG approval is the last step prior to publication for any new, reaffirmed or revised standard.
In order to act on any appeals from members relevant to the standards up for approval, the SARG meeting is open to anyone for participation. The agenda has been posted on the SARG page. There are links from the agenda items to the final drafts that are up for approval.
