Special note: Documents appearing in the TAPPI online version of the Standards and TIPs are updated once a month (usually around the 15th). So it is possible that there is a delay between the publication announcement and the posting online. If you are a subscriber to the online access to Standards and TIPs and you are in a hurry for new documents that have not yet been posted, you can send a request to standards@tappi.org.
The TAPPI Standards regulations require public review of standards that are up for ballot. TAPPI members can view any drafts that are in ballot by logging in to the TAPPI web site (www.tappi.org), clicking on "My TAPPI," and then clicking on the "Standards Public Draft Review" link on the left side of the page. If you would like to review and comment on any draft and are not a member of the corresponding Standard-Specific Interest Group (SSIG), you may view the draft on line or you may request a copy of the draft being balloted by writing to standards@tappi.org. TAPPI members may join SSIGs as permanent members; go to the Subject Category page to download forms for this purpose. Nonmembers of TAPPI may join any SSIG as a voting member; to do so, send a message to standards@tappi.org to receive a copy of the draft and a ballot.

Special note about the online balloting system: TAPPI has been experiencing some problems on its website with the online system for balloting. The problem may or may not have been corrected by the time of the publication fo this edition of the STAR newsletter.
If you are a TAPPI member and expderience problems trying to access drafts and vote on line, send a message to standards@tappi.org and request that a copy of the draft be sent to you. then you can vote by replying to the email. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Getting started is easy. Do you have just a general idea for a standard, or are you farther along and have a substantial draft? If you just have a general idea for a standard or TIP, complete the New Idea Submission Form. TAPPI will review your idea and identify an appropriate committee or group to work on your suggestion. If you are further along, send an initial draft to standards@tappi.org. From there, the TAPPI Standards Manager will guide you through the appropriate process to finalize and approve the new document.
As part of the celebration, TAPPI and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) have invited ISO Technical Committee TC 6 and its subcommittees and working groups to hold its 2015 meeting during the PaperCon week.

The system for review and development of TAPPI Standards requires an announcement of review dates so that any interested TAPPI parties may access the drafts, submit comments, and/or join the Standard-Specific Interest Group (SSIG) to cast an official vote.
Listed below are the Standards that will be up for review in 2014. The date indicated is the target date on which the draft will be distributed to the Standard-Specific Interest Group (SSIG) for that particular Standard.
Any interested individuals who wish to be part of the voting for any Standard should send a message to standards@tappi.org and request voting membership on the corresponding SSIG, prior to the target ballot date, if possible. Anyone who joins the SSIG before the target balloting date will receive a notice of the ballot.
If you have joined the Standard Specific Interest Group for any Standard, you will receive a notice for ballot at the proper time with instructions for casting your vote and making your comments. ...that the Standards Advisory Review Group (SARG) is the final approval point for TAPPI Standards? The SARG, appointed by the Quality and Standrads Management Committee, is responsible for assuring that the regulations governing TAPPI Standards have been followed in the review and/or development of all TAPPI Standards.
Current activity relevant to SARG can be found on the SARG web page. The next SARG meeting will be on April 30, 2014 at the PaperCon Conference in Nashville, TN.. All TAPPI Standards that have gone through the balloting process since the last SARG meeting and are ready for final approval will be voted on at that time.
At least 50 days prior to the meeting, the SARG web page will be updated to show the full agenda of Standards being considered for approval, with links to the draft revisions. Any person who has an interest in any of the Standards has the right to view the drafts and submit comments for SARG to consider before approving the final draft.
The SARG meeting is open to any interested parties, either by attending in person or participating by conference call. To obtain the call-in number for the next meeting, send an email prior to the meeting to standards@tappi.org.
