A product jointly developed by IBS Paper Performance Group, Austria, and Transphase Technology, British Columbia, Canada, consists of an IBS Super High Vac (SHV) mated with a Transphase Z-Box steam profiler. Called the IBS/Trans -phase Super Steam Vac (SSV), the first model was successfully installed last summer to improve the dewatering capacity of a paper machine that had an inefficient suction couch and overall low sheet solids leaving the former.
According to IBS, the initial startup has met the performance guarantee for 26 lb. kraft liner and achieved a 7.33% increase in solids entering the press section.
The long-term goal is to eliminate the suction couch roll and ultimately to eliminate couch maintenance costs and undesirable sheet cooling, as well as reduce energy consumption.
The first system included the Super Steam Vac, a dual-chambered Si-Ni suction box cover, SST integrated separators, vacuum control valves, unloader pumps, and a lubricating shower.
