According to a recent report by The Times Tribune, Scranton, Pa., USA, a New York company that makes household tissue and towel products is promising to bring 140 jobs to Lackawanna County’s northeastern tip. Local officials welcomed news that Select Products Holdings is buying a building for a new factory.
"It’s going to be good for Forest City and Vandling and Carbondale. It’s going to bring jobs to the Upper Valley where we normally don’t get them," said Vandling Councilman Patrick Sherry.
Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf’s office announced the pending deal in a recent news release. It had been kept mostly under wraps while the company secured about $623,000 in state grants and tax credits to lubricate the $6.6 million investment it has promised.
Efforts to reach Select Products CEO Simon Roozrokh and company partners were unsuccessful. In the news release, Roozrokh said the Vandling location will serve as the company’s "manufacturing hub."
"One of the reasons we selected this location is because of the ability to expand, build additional space, and add additional equipment," he said in the release. He credited the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce and the state for facilitating the deal.
Select Products, which manufactures paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, and tissues, is to receive a $280,000 Pennsylvania First grant, $280,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits and $63,000 in state funding for employee training. Harrisburg also is nudging Select Products to apply for a $2.4 million loan from the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority.
