Klabin, Sao Paulo, Brazil, reports that its softwood fluff pulp in Brazil has been tested and approved by 80% of its Brazilian potential clients. According to RISI (Boston, Mass., USA), the product is being manufactured at the company’s new Ortigueira mill, in southern Brazil, which kicked off in March 2016. The facility has a 1.5 million metric tpy combined eucalyptus and softwood kraft (BEK/BSK) pulp capacity.

The mill is currently on a startup curve and produced 230,000 metric tons of market pulp in the second quarter of the year, of which 174,000 metric tons, RISI reported.

"Due to the positive feedback we are getting from potential customers in Brazil, we expect that fluff pulp sales will increase within the next months, meeting our target of converting 100% of our 400,000 metric tpy softwood kraft pulp capacity into fluff in 2017," CEO Fabio Schvartsman, stated. According to Schvartsman, the fluff pulp sales can bring higher margins to the company and will substitute imports in the country.
