The unit, provided by Chinese supplier Weifang Hicredit Machinery, has a trim width of 3.5 m and a design speed of 900 m/min; it is fed with virgin wood pulp. The company has ordered an identical TM to be commissioned in April 2017.
Similarly, Baoding Lifa Paper, a tissue producer in the same city, fired up a 15,000-tonne/yr TM from Weifang Hicredit in early October. The firm is currently installing another such machine, which is scheduled to come on stream in the first half of 2017.
Just 140 km southwest of China’s capital Beijing, Baoding is dotted with numerous small tissue plants which have long been blamed for causing serious pollution.
In recent years, local authorities have implemented stricter environmental regulations to crack down on emissions. This winter in particular has seen the government taking the toughest-ever measures by shutting down all coal boilers with a capacity of fewer than 10 tonnes/hour.
Hence many local tissue manufacturers have been investing in new production lines, sometimes from foreign suppliers, to meet the higher environmental standards.
Baoding Gangxing Paper started a new 17,000-tonne/yr TM in late October, boosting its total tissue capacity to around 120,000 tonnes/yr. With a trim width of 2.76 m and a design speed of 1,100 m/min, the machine is the fifth Kawanoe Zoki-supplied TM to have come online at the company in the past five years; the first was commissioned in 2011.
