Sofidel confirmed media reports that it was prepared to spend some Euro 80 million ($93 million) in order to more than double the site’s capacity in December 2016. In June, the company selected Valmet to supply a complete tissue line that will increase production at the Buñuel site from the current 30,000 tonnes/yr to 100,000 tonnes/yr by the third quarter of 2018.
Following a site visit at the end of October, the local government reported that the first construction phase, which included the construction of warehouses for mother reels and finished products as well as the installation of three converting machines for toilet paper rolls and one for napkins, has been finished. The second phase, which will involve the construction of a 10,000 mē building that will house the new paper machine, reportedly started in June.
All in all, Sofidel is investing some Euro 80-90 million in the project that will create 100 direct and about 40 indirect jobs.
