According to the Chesterfield Observer, the prospect of Chinese-owned Tranlin Inc.’s $2 billion paper mill in eastern Chesterfield is growing dimmer. After another missed deadline, state and industry officials are questioning whether the project, expected to create 2,000 jobs, has a future.
In late October, Don Lan, the firm’s acting chief executive, told state officials that the firm could not make a $5 million repayment for state incentives because it had missed a production deadline for the plant, expected to be built on 850 acres near Willis Road.
It is the latest in a series of problems that first surfaced in the summer of 2016, raising questions about the project’s viability.
