Essity to Permanently Lay off 60 Workers at Mill in Middletown, OH

Stockholm-based tissue paper producer Essity will lay off 60 employees at its Middletown, OH, mill starting Aug. 16, according to a WARN filing with the Ohio Dept. of Jobs and Family Services and local press reports.
The former Wausau Paper mill became SCA in 2016 as part of a $513 million acquisition, before the company rebranded as Essity.
The mill is shown with a capacity of 126,000 tpy of tissue on two machines, a deinking line, and with employment of 185, according to RISI’s Mill Asset Database. The permanent layoffs mostly include members of the United Steelworkers Union.
A cause for the layoffs was not disclosed. A list of the job titles affected include many deinked pulp-related positions.
