Hengan International has started up a new 60,000-mtpy tissue machine at its mill in Weifang city, Shandong province, China. The first sheet of paper rolled off the line in late July.
Dubbed PM 22, the Valmet-supplied unit has a trim width of 5.6 m and a design speed of 2,000 m/min. Back in 2012, Hengan ordered eight 60,000-mtpy tissue machines: four from Andritz, and four from Valmet. PM 22 is the last to come on stream. The previous one was commissioned at the same site in January.
Apart from the Weifang plant, the company operates five other tissue mills across the country. Together it boasts a total of around 1.4 million mtpy of tissue capacity, ranking itself as the second largest producer of the grade in China.
