The Bundeskartellamt, Germany’s anti-trust authority, has given its approval to a possible takeover of the Arjowiggins Greenfield deinked pulp mill in France by the German tissue producer WEPA.

WEPA made a filing with the watchdog regarding the possible takeover of the plant last week. The tissue specialist has declined to comment on its intentions regarding the mill, which can produce some 140,000 metric tpy of deinked pulp.

The Greenfield mill is one of three Arjowiggins operations in France that were placed in receivership in January, along with the Bessé-sur-Braye and Le Bourray paper mills.

Local press reported in February that offers had been made on all of the plants, with one offer for all three operations together and a second for only the Bessé-sur-Braye and Greenfield mills. According to those reports, the offer for all three sites came from the Scandinavian-owned British industrial group THLF, while the other offer was from Arjowiggins executives.
