Production has started on Crown Paper Mill’s (CPM) new tissue machine. According to the company the new line, PM 3, produced the first roll in late March and is in full swing now.
CPM used to produce some 35,000 metric tpy for facial, toilet, kitchen, towel, napkin, C-fold and carrier grades at its site in Abu Dhabi. The new machine has boosted the company’s capacity to around 100,000 metric tpy, turning the company, a subsidiary of Ittihad International Investment, into one of the largest tissue producers in the United Arab Emirates. CPM’s number of employees has risen from 170 to more than 250 people thanks to the new line.
Valmet announced in September 2017 that it would supply a new tissue production line to CPM. The value of the order was not disclosed. “The new tissue machine will have a width of 5.6 m and a design speed of 2,000 m/min and will add 65,000 metric tpy of tissue paper to Crown Paper Mill’s current production of high-quality facial, toilet tissue and kitchen towels,” the company said at the time.
