According to the Star-Ledger, investigators in Bergen County said that after six months of intensive investigation, the cause of the fire that destroyed nearly all of the Marcal Paper Company’s complex remains undetermined.
The Jan. 30 destroyed 31 of 36 buildings at the iconic plant on Market Street in Elmwood Park. It started in a storage area of the northeastern-most building on the southern side of the railroad tracks, known as building No. 41, investigators said.
Large rolls of paper used to make paper products were stored in the area where the fire began, they said.
Investigators with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Elmwood Park Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives interviewed more than 100 people in the months after the blaze. Back to Tissue360 Newsletter |
