Essity’s Lilla Edet Mill in Sweden Hit by Fire

A fire broke out at Essity’s Lilla Edet mill in Sweden in July after lightning ignited bales of paper for recycling (PfR) at the facility. 

An Essity representative told Fastmarkets RISI that the PfR bales caught fire in the afternoon. The local fire brigade arrived quickly and internal plans to handle such situations were executed successfully,” the spokesperson said, adding that the fire was quickly under control. The fire brigade remained on site overnight and departed early the next morning.

Operations at the mill were not affected, according to the spokesperson. It is unclear at the moment how much PfR was destroyed, but the company is investigating, he added.

According to Fastmarkets RISI’s Asset Database, the Lilla Edet mill has a capacity of around 100,000 mtpy of bath and towel tissue.
