A May 2019 fire ripped through paper product company Georgia Pacific's Muskogee paper mill, badly damaging a building in which paper rolls were converted to finished products. That building was demolished in November, said G-P Savannah public affairs manager Carrie Thompson — and a new one should replace it soon, according to the Muskogee Phoenix.
"The building should be complete by May," Thompson said. "We expect the first pieces of new equipment to arrive in May 2020, as well. We hope to return to supplying our customers from the Muskogee plant as soon as the new equipment is installed."
The building's planned completion would place it roughly one year after a propane-fueled forklift caught fire in a converting area. The flames quickly spread as firefighters rushed to get the blaze under control well into the night. There were four people treated on-scene for injuries that night and one person transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Back to Tissue360 Newsletter |
