Working with Overmade, Nash, OBL and Andritz, Cartiere Carrara has started a major rebuild of the tissue machine PM 3 in Pratovecchio (Italy).
The stock preparation system and the paper machine up to the combining line will be upgraded to produce high quality goods.
The scope of the rebuild includes a new Yankee dryer, DCS, dust removal system, refiners, vacuum pump, fan pump, wire and felt rolls, new blind press roll, yankee doctors as well as an upgrade of the stock preparation system. The entire machine structure will be rebuilt with stainless steel.
With this rebuilt PM 3 will be one of the most “sustainable” machines in Europe featuring technology that will allow it to reduce energy and fiber consumption, increase safety and to produce high quality tissue for the napkin market.
The good cooperation between suppliers and Cartiere Carrara team will allow completion of the project in a short time considering the level of difficulties to manage such a kind of a major rebuilt in an existing building.
Cartiere Carrara took over the Pratovecchio plant from SCA in 2010. From 2010 to 2019 Cartiere Carrara invested Euro 23 million to install a new integrated converting plant with 17 lines and to restore and modernize all existing facilities, doubling the direct labor force.
