Japan’s Daio Paper has unveiled a plan to build a 1,500 tonne per month tissue machine at its flagship Mishima mill. The unit will make paper towel base paper, in view of increasing demand for the product domestically and in nearby export markets.
In Daio’s estimation, the COVID-19 pandemic will increase in-home paper towel purchases, and out-of-home applications are also expected to recover and grow. The $55-million TM is expected to start operations in July next year.
Meanwhile, the company is on track to install a second 54,000-mtpy TM at its Kawanoe mill, near the Mishima plant, next October.
